I know the contract open Feb 1 but I am not submitting it then. How late can I submit it but sill have a good shot at on campus housing? I don’t need the nicest dorms but if I decide to attend I don’t want to screw myself out of housing.
Why aren’t you submitting it on Feb 1? It’s not binding - if you choose to back out, you get all but $50 (possibly $750 refunded back to you. If you submit on April 30th? Probs not gonna get housing. February 2nd? For sure. There’s no ~magical day that housing is “gone”
@pg96fsu I have already submitted and lost money on deposits and I honestly think there is a slim chance I go to fsu. I will know For sure where I am going by March tho so hopefully I’m okay.
By March you’ll be quite possibly screwed, to put it bluntly.
My son was convinced he was not going to FSU. Absolutely his eighth choice out of ten. Then he went to Accepted Students’ Days and it moved up; financial issues with his first choice moved it up some more, then-- surprise! Two weeks after housing opened he decided it was where he wanted to go, and he hurried to put in his housing application. His number was in the high 3000s.
His intended roommate waited a couple more weeks beyond that. He was probably the very last person to be placed, because despite being in the Honors program, he got shut out of the Honors dorm and ended up in the dorm considered by all to be Very Last Choice Oh God Don’t Make Me Live There.
Another of his friends, who waited a few days longer than Intended Roommate (so…maybe five weeks after it opened), got a very nice email saying “yeah, you should probably look for other options, because we’re outta dorm space”.
Good luck! Hope it works out for you.
@petrichor11 ok thank you! That’s exactly what I needed. I emailed fsu housing and they were less than helpful. Hopefully I’ll know by mid February but thank you.
Signed in on 2/1 at 9:00 am for housing. Housing contract completed at 10:00 am with a number of 691.
Dang, we lucked out. We’re under 100!
I think anything under 1,000 is very good, though.
Congrats to you both. We have been trying to log in since 9:00 a.m. The server has been crashed most of the morning.
@rev mom GOOD LUCK!!
Also keep in mind that the number you receive is based on everyone who submits, even those who are NOT going to go to Florida State when all is said and done. Figure about half of the people ahead of you will end up going elsewhere.
Well. I ended up submitting contract
It seems they are well into the thousands already in terms of housing applicants.
So, how bad is 3300…?
Duke, not as bad as it first looks. I think they have 6,000+ spaces on campus? (not sure the exact number), and plenty of people may not even be going to FSU in the end, so your number could be twice as good as it looks. You won’t get into the best/newest places, but you should still have plenty of great options.
I tried to get in right when they opened at 9 am. Couldn’t get through for an hour - finally got through and finalized the contract at 10:13, contract # high 900’s. For people wondering about space, based on info on the housing website, there are 5,522 spaces in the dorms. I didn’t calculate apartment space. I don’t know whether all 5500 spaces are available to freshman. There are about 29,000 full time undergrads, so let’s say 7,500 freshman in the incoming class. (Maybe somebody has better numbers). Incoming freshman, some will commute, 5500 dorm spaces, some may be taken by sophmores, maybe 2000 freshman left out. If someone has actual numbers, please comment.
@Duke07 , @Trisherella is correct - because you only lose $50 if you don’t attend, plenty of (smart) people put down deposits to reserve a space, and then won’t end up attending. Given the space in the dorms and the contracts that will drop out, you are probably good for a spot. I’ll call housing tomorrow to try to get a sense for how many spots are typically available for freshman, and what contract number might be a cutoff for space.
I submitted the day it opened at 11:00 AM and received a lowly number of 2,019. Is that a decent number?
My son’s number is a little over 2,800. As other people have said, some with higher numbers will end up not going to FSU. Even if there are only ~5K spaces for freshmen (just a conservative guess, the real amount is probably higher), that should be a decent enough number.
The earlier you apply the better, but I applied last year end of april (my housing contract number was 6985 I believe) and I was still able to get housing. I was put on a waitlist and wasn’t assigned a room until august, but if they truly believe that they will not be able to house you they will let you know when you still have time to find something off campus
That number is plenty good for decent housing, KiaraBabi.
