Hi.
I was accepted to UF (applying to Honors as well), but am awaiting decision from 5 colleges that will all be found out about in April. I have some questions about housing.

First, I never paid the 25 dollar fee, and as of yet I have not received a housing contract that all my friends are talking about. Is this still something that has to be done, and will it even have any effect this late on? Is this the only way to get the housing contract email? EDIT:I just paid for this, decided it couldn't wait.

Next, because I am probably so low on the priority list now, what are the chances that I will still get on campus housing? Does being in Honors change that?

Next, the housing contract is due March 2nd, tomorrow. Along with this is a 200 dollar deposit. What if I end up at a different school, will these be 200 dollars gone? Seems like a bit of a money making scheme on UF's part, to be honest.

Please reply! Thanks in advance.

The $200 is due today and if you decide to not go to UF I believe you will not get a refund.

So can I submit the $200 today, and then the contract later?

The 200$ is the contract. First you pay a 25$ housing fee then a 200$ housing contract, which is due today.

The order of the assignments process is this:
- Apply to UF
- Receive UF Housing Welcome Brochure two weeks after application to UF
- Apply for On-Campus Housing. Your Housing Application Date is the date you submit your housing application and the $25 non-refundable housing application fee. This date establishes your “place in line” to select your room and residence hall.
- Receive e-mail confirmation after completing application. An application is not a guarantee that you will be offered housing if admitted to UF
- Get admitted to UF (determined by UF Admissions)
- Receive email to complete Residence Hall Contract(s) within 1 week of UF admission
- Complete Residence Hall Contract(s) by your due date in the housing contract email.
- Receive email confirmation after completing contract(s). This guarantees space in campus housing for the contract period.
- Receive email with your room selection date and detailed instructions on how to choose your room.
- Select your room from the date specified in the email. (You can choose a roommate based on room availability.)
- Move in on August 17th. Check the UF Housing Facebook & website for updates on Check-In.

If you just submitted your application & $25 application fee, you will be lower on the room selection list (most students started applying in early last Fall and even late Summer 2010).
Once you submit your application, you should receive an e-mail with contract information on the following Tuesday. That’s when you submit your $200 and contract. This will guarantee you a spot with on-campus housing.

If this seems too expensive, you can always choose to live off campus. But they have deposits that are usually around $1000, plus first month’s rent, and utility turn on fees all when you move in. On-campus can definitely be a lot easier and cheaper in the long run.

Hume Hall is definitely awesome. Check out all of the Living Learning Communities, so you can see what other options too. [Academic Initiatives & Enhancement – UF | Housing & Residence Education](http://www.housing.ufl.edu/aie/)
Studies show that students that live on-campus have much higher GPAs than students that live off-campus - plus you can live with students that are taking the same classes as you.

Very helpful, thanks. I have a good friend who is also doing UF Honors, he however submitted his 25 dollar application fee as you said, way earlier. How does rooming work? Will it be unlikely that I can room with who I want? Or does that not involve the application fee date? Because if so, I am thinking that the best way for me to room on campus is almost mooching off a friend with a early priority date.
Thanks!

I’d e-mail assignments@housing.ufl.edu for complete information - but I’m pretty sure that roommates work like this: You sign up for your room and put a hold for the person that you want to room with (need to have their UFID), they accept by 11:59pm on the following day and you are officially roommates. Have your roommate pick the room first and put a hold for you.
You are guaranteed a room on campus if you signed your contract - so dont worry about that. It’s a legal binding contract, so they are required to give you a room. Definitely don’t sign a contract/lease off campus - because UF will not let you out of your contract.
Also check out the [UF Housing and Residence Education | Facebook](UF Housing) page - they’re super quick to respond with official information.
