How long does it take for a student without sufficient documents to get special accommodation on ACT

I'm a college freshman currently considering to take ACT to transfer to another college. I was diagnosed to have high-functioning autism when I was 14, but I have never noticed that my extremely slow writing speed can be attributed to my disability until the last month. For this reason, I have never utilized special accommodations in my secondary school and in any standardized test before. Yet obviously, my scores in writing-related exams have been always low, since I can't finish it on the time.

Now, I'm going to take ACT with extended time. Although my request of extended time was approved by my college this week, I'm not sure whether it will be approved by ACT soon enough due to the lack of my history of using special accommodations. I would like to take the test until the December. But do you think it's possible? If I can't, I will take it in the second semester, but it's not so desirable for me. If it takes really long time to get approval from ACT in my case, should I consider taking SAT with extended time instead?

I took SAT twice without extended time, and the result was really uneven. For example, I got 6/12 in essay and got perfect score in Writing MCQ section.

Could you plan to take the ACT in December, April and June? At some point across that span of time, your effort to get ACT accommodations could be granted, maybe even after an appeal. You would definitely need new documentation of the writing disability ASAP, I would think, but I’m just guessing. Keep seeking an answer, in the meantime. Good luck!

That plan sounds reasonable. Thanks for your advice!
