How long should an average student spend studying for the New Sat?

Can someone tell me how long a student should study for the new SAT to get the highest score possible? Is Six months enough?

My friend only took one practice test beforehand and got a 2360.

It depends on your individual ability. Take a practice test now and see where you stand.

6 months is more than enough.

A lot of the enlish is just making sure your subject lines up with your verb, and keeping this consistent. If you know this, you will score a lot higher. If you really want to get high in English, you have to learn the vocab. I never did, and will never get >700 on the reading or writing. I accept this, and dont get stressed.

take practice test......see where u are

then study....

take another practice test midway through your allottted study period.

study more or less depending on where u want to be

rinse and repeat

6 months? Are you insane? A week hardcore right before the test should do it. (Hardcore = 1 or more serious tests a day)

1 week taking a 4 hour test EVERY SINGLE DAY?? what? Maybe you are like a crazy good crammer...

I studied for about 6 months hardcore and I don't even know if I broke 2100 today, despite being an "above average" student. I would say if you're just average, study for about 8 months... if you hate multiple choice as much as I do, at least.

^^ Hey don't knock cramming... it truly is the way to success :P

I can't believe you guys study for 6-8 months for this thing. I literally only saw the SAT paper for the first time the day before my November exam and did 2 practise papers and some extra practise questions.

i have a theory... the amount of studying is inverse to the score

cuz i started in freshman year and i got a )(^)(&%)&^)(%^^$^&$ 2050......

asd096yjsafghdp;lksp dfgahjsdafkafj avfl spTWp*Y&TH (sorry ,i was cleaning my keyboard cuz i threw up on it)

I considered taking the PSAT five times between 6th grade and junior year enough studying - that works for some people like me that don't have the patience to actually study for the SAT, but for others studying helps a lot, so just do whatever feels right for you.

HAHA^

im kinda double sided about prep

im against it, but i think thats only because im too lazy to do it myself, and therefore think that it should be illegal. If you are smart, and know the format of the test, you can have great success. I bagged a 2300 without ever cracking a prep book.

ON the other hand, if you don't test well, are underconfident, or just want a score that seems beyond what you can score on your own accord, prep is (obviously) a good idea. Jus don't let it take away from the rest of your life.

my laugh was at the guy who threw up on his keyboard

hmm...Studying over the summer didn't improve me much...so I believe studying really didn't help and actually got me more anxious about it. I know people who went in without any prep and banged out 1350/1600's...when I worked my ass off and still couldn't break 1300. Overstudying doesn't work in your favor and neither does this forum. This forum keeps your mind on it all the time which shouldn't be the thing. I guess studying too much for it made me dwell on it too much and increase me worries for scoring high which in the end made me score below what I should have. For the ACT's I'm going to just take a practice test today...review all my answers and breakup the last test during the week and go in like its a joke.

whos up for some hardcore winter break studying?!

for what? Midterms?

no the SAT. for midterms, its always the weekend before, atleast for me.

Oh...I'm done with SAT's (senior) only thing left is a first/last chance for ACT :X this Sat

the science section is so short! u have like no time! ahhh

although I think he just figuratively "threw up" because of his score...not literally. :p Otherwise, he throws up everytime he posts his scores :)

just do 30 mins a day for a month
