Does it have to somthing specifically in an academic or classroom setting, or can it be more of an epiphany type thing I had on my own?

I think that as long as you learned anything at all in any way or grew in the slightest you should be good.

I’m sure epiphanies are fine.

I interpreted this essay very loosely. An intellectual experience doesn’t have to be something scholastic, just something that you learned that had a significant impact on your life. Basically anything can be considered an intellectual experience so you aren’t limited. Good luck!

You can interpret it very loosely. My essay was pretty much just about how I became interested in philosophy because I overheard some kid talking about existentialism in the park and wanted to know what the word meant so I looked it up on wikipedia, where it sounded interesting, which led me to the library, which led me to a summer study, etc. But it wasn’t really about one tangible experience, it was more just about discovering a new interest.

The point with this essay in general isn’t really the content so much as it is the quality and cogency of your writing. Your essay exists so that admissions counselors can get to know you better, so try to make your essay a representation of you as much as possible.

What about a long discussion on facebook chat about philosophy?
