How many and which extra-curriculars activities were you involved in

which extra-curricular activities did you partake in during high school to get accepted into UMich? Do they play a major role? Thanks!

I was accepted for the Class of 2018. I was involved in Model UN, DECA, NHS, played two years of two sports, had a part-time job and volunteered at a hospital two hours a week, as well as did some other volunteering. I would say that ECs play a major role because they help you stand out more and show your passions. A lot of people have a good GPA and ACT score but ECs set you apart.

Thanks! What was your act score btw? @2014emily2014‌

Anyone else?

You’re looking for a formula. That’s a fool’s errand. What is consistent is excellence, not the similarity of titles on your Common App EC section. Have a great GPA in a rigorous transcript, solid ACT/SAT, be a decent person, positively affect others.

There is no particular EC or number of EC that would get you into any school. You are collecting useless info.
Your EC should show your passion. It does not matter at all what other people do.

Hey, try not to stress out about this too much; focus on enjoying high school instead of considering extracurriculars as vehicles “to get accepted into UMich.” There are tons of Michigan students - myself included - who got in without being involved in those popular competitive ECs like Model UN, debate, math team, etc. (Not saying anything negative about those clubs- they are awesome things to do if you enjoy them/are passionate!).

Even if you don’t consider yourself to be “passionate” about anything (this was I problem that I thought I had in applying to colleges), just try out something that interests you! Michigan wants graduates who do cool things- they’re just looking for people who have the potential to be awesome. Show them your awesomeness and you’ll be fine :)

Sorry this is so late but I got a 30!

I have filled out the CommomApp ‘Activities’ Section.

However, since I have a large bunch of extracurriculars in several diverse fields (art, science, sports, public speaking, project making, quizzing, computers etc), I want to show my 3 page CV that includes all these activities in brief points.

However, I am unable to find an area where I can show these activities.

Should I send a printout of this list and send it in a packet to the University? Or is there some online way to do this?

No, don’t do that, that is just adding extra work to the Admissions people.

What you should have done is to sort out your EC by importance to you and merge similar items together. If you still have some activities left, they would be out of your top 10 list and are not as important. You may just summarize them in a few sentences in the additional information section if you really want to.
