About how many? I'll have taken 7 or 8. Is this insufficient? It's really the most I could fit. APs really start junior year, and even then, most only take only 2 (it's very unusual to fit more than that).

There is no set number. You should take the most rigorous courses available to you, generally. If your school does not offer a lot of APs or does not afford enough flexibility to take more, then you will not be penalized.

I took 3 and got into some good schools. It’s not about quantity, it’s about taking the most rigorous classes that were available to you.

In my case, my school only offers like 5 APs, but due to prereqs, core classes required for senior year (due to having to meet requirements for two countries’ diplomas), and only allowing APs from junior year onward (and only 1 AP as a junior) I could only take 3. I was fine because I did as much as I could…and colleges knew that.

May depend on what is offered. If your school offers 2 and you took 2, that may look better than if your school offers 15 and you took 4.

Also, it depends on which APs. If you took 2 which are English Literature and Calculus BC, that may look better than if you took 4 which are Statistics, Physics B, Environmental Science, and Psychology.

You’re more than fine. That’s gotta be more APs than the average applicant takes. Don’t let CC jade you, where everyone expects you to take 15 or more!
