How many AP credits can you have

Son still in decision mode. UConn Honors majoring in CS.

He will have 4 or 5 in all of the following:

AP Calc
AP Physics
AP Statistics
AP Chem
AP US History
AP English

Will he receive credit for all of these (effectively reduce his degree requirement by 6 courses) ?

Thanks.

Start with the AP credit chart: [College Board AP Examination Transfer Guidelines | Undergraduate Admissions](http://admissions.uconn.edu/content/transfer/transfer-credits/ap-credits) , then go to the requirements for the CS major to see whether the AP credits may be applied toward the major or just the distribution or electives slots.

I’m guessing Calc AB. Is that Physics B (algebra) or C (calculus)? The calculus will get him out of calc I (4 credits), the statistics out of Stat 1000 (3-4 I forget exactly), the chem out of Chem 1127 and 1128 (8 credits), the history out of 1400 (3 credits), the English will satisfy the requirement for any English as a CS major (4 credits). Probably about 30 credits overall.

These won’t count towards his GPA, however. And only a couple count towards GPA requirements (Calc, Chem, and Physics). Is he a CS or CSE major? If he’s a CSE major, he’ll have to take one semester of calculus based physics if that’s AP Physics B, or none if it’s Physics C (although that exam is very difficult so I wouldn’t be certain of a 5). If he’s CS the Chem will do for the hard science requirement. The others will boost his class standing and get him out of some gen eds, but he won’t likely will still take 4 years because the engineering programs have very strict course progression lists that make it difficult to take advanced classes.
