How many clubs is TOO MUCH?

Well, I've done something terribly wrong. I signed up for FIVE clubs this year.

Student Council, the school newspaper, Mock Trial, A capella choir, and Book Club. I also plan to apply for the National English Honor Society and the National Honor Society, but I don't plan on being accepted. I'm a sophomore and it's my first year of eligibility. And I'm sure that I'm going out for Track and Softball come tryouts.

I definitely think I'm getting WAY ahead of myself.

So, this poses the question: How many clubs is just TOO MUCH?

You definitely won’t have time for 5 clubs AND 2 sports… but it’s a bit early to tell how long you’ll spend in each and whether you’ll get into your sports, so go ahead and wait a bit to see if you need to drop out of any. Otherwise 5 clubs would be fine.

Yea, I’m doing 6-7 clubs + working out 3 days a week. Sports would be impossible though.

Just give it time and you’ll know when you’ve bitten off more than you can chew.

Just depends. Im a sophmore… and I’m in 9 clubs and activities. When my sport comes (besides showchoir right now), tennis, I dont know how I’m going to do it. Let’s say if I was in Football, I would never be able to attend any of the meetings.

Im used to getting at school by atleast 7:40 and leaving 4:10-9:00… depending on the day! You’ll just have to adjust.

You can do it though!

Good luck.

I’m a sophomore and I’m president of Model UN and Table Tennis club.
I’m also in CSF, Key Club, Mock Trial, Speech and Debate, and Active Earth.
I also play tennis and am taking 5 AP classes this year.
I think you’ll be fine but you might get frustrated sometimes when you can’t choose which to make your first priority, academics or extracurriculars.

You’re ability to handle that schedule is largely dependent on how often they meet and how much dedication they require from you. Athletes, musicians, and thespians, for instance, are often required to for many hours every day. Something like MUN or Newspaper may need additional hours at home to complete.

I’m in five clubs but they aren’t like serious educational clubs, I’m in: the yoga club, the rap club, muggles in denial, the ultimate muffin club, and the pirate ninja alliance.

sorry but

thank you

^You beat me to it.

It’s better to focus on a few clubs than to be a member of every club possible.
So in short, I think being an officer who spends around 3-5 hours a week in a club is MUCH better than being a member of 6 clubs who only attends meetings once a week.

Try clubs that interest you :)

Almost there, Muggles in Denial sounds like a cool club. What kind of things do you all do?

I’m not sure. I just went to the club night thing an signed up for it. I mostly joined because I wanted to get the sweatshirt that says “I got waitlisted at hogwarts”

my school limits us to five. i’m in beta, academic team, gay-straight alliance, and model un.

I wish my school had Muggles In Denial!

me too. 10 char

too much is when you’re trying hard to achieve a higher # of clubs and not high quality work in them

too much is when they start affecting your grades.

I’m in:
Med Club (Founder and President)
Multi Cultural Club (President)
Writing Club (Vice President)
Science Olympiad (Captain)
Recycle Club
Key Club
NHS

And play sports, work out etc.

Too much is when you can’t sleep because of that and school work. But I’m only in a couple of clubs. I’m on the Debate team and in NHS. Not a lot, but I spend time with the organizations. I work really hard on debate speeches and what not and go to all of the monthly NHS meetings and sign up to do stuff all of the time.

The point where you don’t have time for homework and a life. I’m close at that brink.

Mine:
Health Awareness/Pre med club - Senior officer, founder, every week, I give a specific “lecture” on a disease, and the club promotes healthy living in the school
Post Secondary/Scholarship Club- Founder, President. I give people updates, give tutorials on different standardized exams, and explain the whole American university admissions process to Canadian students, who have no clue
Student Council - Member. Didn’t try out for elections, but I sometimes hold chair positions.
Community Band- 1st Clarinet
Jazz Band - Baritone Saxophone.
