It is super challenging to complete all of them with EA/ED by deadlines (normally Nov. 1). I only made half of them EA, and the rest RD.
S21 applied to 8 schools. 1-2 safeties and the rest matches. List was driven by the desired major.
I applied early to 3 schools, and would have applied to ~10 more (including 3 financial safeties) if I hadn’t been accepted at my ED school.
- Chasing merit aid.
I applied to 12 colleges
-3 Reaches
-6 Targets
-3 Safeties
Got accepted into 2 so far. Still patiently waiting on those other 10!
Kudos on being so sane. 23? Really??
Wasn’t planning to do this many, but my son ended up submitting 17 applications (15 initially and 2 more after compelling marketing/communications). Primarily he did that because COVID was impacting planned campus tours, but also because concern that test optional policies would increase competition at reach or even target schools.
Original plan was to submit 10 max, but obviously that plan went out the window. 6 schools were reach, 9 were match, and 2 safety.
Have a few more kids to put through college after this one, so we’ll consider this as helpful for the next ones.
S21 seems to be getting more hardcore marketing materials than older sibling did. Same stats so that’s not it. We are getting full on books for schools. And even two weeks after their deadline! Got A big Bates magazine today, 16 days past their application deadline. I get that they are anxious and trying to increase apps but this is silly.
Agree 100%, i’ve been shocked at some of the mailings (not to mention the targeted email campaigns).
D21 applied to 10, all in state.
S21 applied to 19
- 4 reach (accepted to 1 waiting on 3)
- 12 Target (accepted to 1 waiting on 11) due to major wasn’t sure if more are reaches
- 3 safeties (accepted to 3)
Last week Our S21 received a full brochure from a college with an enclosed letter dated December 12th. Their deadline was Jan 1 so we received it 3 weeks after that. We still get mailing still daily for Jan 1 or 15 deadlines. Our mail has been arriving late for months. My bi-weekly pay stub used to come by the Monday after the Friday payday but now arrives fully 7 or 8 days later. Covid has certainly been the cause for the disruption of the normally reliable mail system.
The lateness is USPS. Last week, we got a nice BU book with a letter dated 12/3!
What kind of budget do they have for this stuff? It’s pretty nuts. I hope it and the emails stop soon.
Child applied to
11 reaches
0 matches
3 safeties (public univs – 2 instate and one out of state).
1 safety accepted, all others awaiting.
Today, my son received USPS delivered marketing materials from two schools that he applied to in November, both of which deadlines have long passed.
Yes it is funny. We received paper mails inviting to apply but my D already received admissions from them.
We got an email from one school saying that they received our FAFSA information but we never sent it because my daughter didn’t end up applying.
S21 applied to 13 schools.
5 Reaches
6 Targets
1 Safety
1 Political Hedge (its in Canada)
It sounds like many acceptances already went out. Do you all mind sharing if those acceptances were based on WITH test scores or WITHOUT? Thx!
@nan415
S21 applied with a test score and was accepted to his three EAs. Two with merit scholarships. These were T50 schools, and one was his safety. We are still waiting on all the RDs.
