What workload would you recommend taking on in the first quarter of the first year? What benefits and drawbacks are there when taking on 4 courses instead of 3 and vice versa?
Thank you in advance!

Request 4 because you can always drop one during the add/drop period. If you have a pressing comitment during the fall (such as fall sports) then you might want just to register for three.
@JBStillFlying thank you, but I wonder whether it’s quite common to drop out of the course during the first few weeks…
Well, that’s why they call it an “add-drop” period. People move around a lot. It’s ok.
@ucbmxx the summer advisor my daughter consulted on an issue conveyed that things are really in a flux for the first few weeks. It’s even possible to petition to get INTO a class after it’s begun, if enough have dropped it.
There is no penalty for dropping in the designated window and you would still be at full load. The pre-registration materials and videos on the website even suggest that you might try this if you aren’t sure how many to take. Lots of kids do either. It simply depends on what works for you. My kid will register for 4, and she knows which one she’ll drop and pick up again in the winter.
