I see that some colleges have EArly Decision I and II. Does this mean I can Early Decision for one school, then Early Decision II for another? What about EArly ACtion? How many of those can I do?

EA you can do to as many schools as you want.

I don’t know much about ED, since I don’t intend on doing it.
From what I understand, ED I the deadline is Nov 1, and you will get accepted or rejected on Dec 15th. If you get rejected from that school or deferred for regular admission then you can apply to a school at offers EA II which is on the 15th?

That’s what I think…

^ED II
can’t edit

You have to be careful about SCEA. I don’t believe you can apply to other schools early with SCEA.

wats SCEA?
and wats the benefit/drawbacks to EA and/or ED?

SCEA is early action, but you can’t apply anywhere else early action/decision.
Early action: pros are that you get a decision back faster, cons are that you may not be as prepared.
Early decision: pros are that you get a decision back faster and often have a higher acceptance rate, cons are that you’re forced to commit, so must be sure of the school, can’t shop for financial aid, etc.

SCEA = Single Choice Early Action

dunno if my schools are SCEA or just EA? how do I tell? it seems that on common app I could just put all Early Decision and it wouldnt point it out to me

Stanford + Yale = SCEA

Go on their website - it says

If you have done any research at all on the schools you are applying to, you should know what the admissions procedures are at each school and whether they have ED, EA, or SCEA (sometimes called restricted EA) options. Such info is always on their websites and in their printed materials.

yea I know wat schools do it or not. I just want to know can I EA and ED at same time(for diff. schools)? as well as ED II? (and can I do more than one time each?)

If it’s EA, then yes u can ED other schools. However, if accepted into the ED school, u must go
If it’s SCEA - no u cant apply anywhere else

so if i chose Stanford’s EA, I cant ED or EA or ED II for anything because it’s SCEA.
if normal EA, I can do ONE EA, ONE ED, and ONE ED II?

yes…SCEA mean Single Choice Early Action…meaning that although it is early action you can only apply to one school like that…

Early Decision is only one school because u will be forced to attend if admitted

You can do EDII if and only if (a) you do not apply anywhere EDI or (b) you are deferred or rejected from your EDI school.

Therefore, you cannot necessarily do one EDI and one EDII.

For most schools, you can apply to as many EA schools as you wish. However, there are exceptions.

You’ve already noted Stanford’s (and Yale’s) SCEA. Additionally, there are some schools that allow you to apply there EA only if you do not apply anywhere ED (Georgetown & BC, for example), but do not restrict your EA applications. There are some schools (Brown, for example) that will not allow any other early applications, even EA, if you apply there ED. And even these situations have exceptions.

You must review the websites of all the schools to which you want to apply early to get a definitive answer to your questions.
