How many hours should I be studying for?

I know it varies between person, but on average, how many hours am I supposed to study for per week? As of right now I am a student taking AP Statistic and Biology course in college. I usually don’t like studying, but I do know I have too… How long do you study for and how long are your breaks in between times?

That really is something that differs per person. How people take in information, their study habits, what they are capable of naturally picking up, etc.

My S is naturally very bright, and he’s also very hardworking and diligent. He does not spend nearly half the time studying that his younger sister does. D is smart, but needs to study to reinforce a lot of information. Studying is a chore for her, so gets home, allows herself an hour of freetime, then she goes to her room, removes all of her distractions (phone, iPad, etc) and studies/works for about 2-3 hours if she needs to. Then she eats dinner. If she has more work to do, she repeats the pattern. If not, she’s done for the night. She forces herself to do it, but she makes sure she gets it done early but also allows herself a little freetime.

I think you’d be hard pressed to find someone your age who would enthusiastically state, “oh boy, studying…I can’t wait!!!” However, how much you need to study has to do with what it takes for you to get the job done and the outcomes that you desire. Some students hardly ever have to actually study and do very well in high school, and some need to study a great deal (sometimes way too much in my opinion) to get the same outcomes.

Most of the time, by the time I get home I think I take up to 2hrs of study time a little break and another hour 'round before getting to bed but that’s when an exam is coming along. I don’t know how I’d approach studying tomes in college though

I think it is assumed that you will study 2-3 hours per class room time. So if you have 15 credits, you should be studying/doing homework at least 30 hours per week. But really it is up to how you are doing with your grades and how quickly you grasp/memorize things.

It depends on a variety of factors. Your caseload for one. Some classes you aren’t going to have to study for at all, others are going to take up a lot of time. There really isn’t a hard and fast rule.

I am a social sciences major (political science) and typically study more more than 5 hours per day. I usually study for close to 3 hours in the afternoon and then 2-3 in the evening, usually finishing up around 9-9:30

It also depends on what i am studying, if what i’m going to study really interests me or it is something i think i’m really good at, then it takes me at least 4 hours a day with 30 minutes break.

If i may ask, what interests you the most? because i believe, when you love something, you won’t hate studying it. That’s just me, tho’
