How many inches on application are given for the essay?

My counselor is currently filling out his part of the application, and he wants my essay in by tomorrow. So, I don't have the application in front of me. However, I want to know exactly how much space I have (height-wise) so I don't exceed the limit. Can anyone help me out with an estimate?

Just measured…
6 inches almost exactly.

Haha, thanks for taking the time to fulfill my very unconventional request!

They are actually trying to go with an online system, at least our paperwork urged us to use the online system instead of submitting paper. Perhaps different schools do things differently. Ours came directly from National Merit because we homeschool.

Online, they allow approximately 3600 characters, but somehow white space (blank lines between paragraphs, and empty ends of lines) are counted into that. If you are typing your essay, you can get an approximate idea if you have a way to count characters on your word processor.

Someone posted elsewhere that approximately 500 words at 10 pt. Times Roman fits. That worked for my daughter.
