How Many More Fees Will Be Added?

Okay..so far I have:

Tuition
Dining
Dining Administration Fee
Student Activity Fees
Housing

And it comes up to $23,027 for this semester. My financial aid for this semester equals $22,503, so there is $524 uncovered at the moment.

How many more fees will be added? I'm trying to figure out how much in loans I'll have to take out. I know I will have to enroll in insurance, which is $1514 (Per year or semester? I don't know. Also, will I be billed half each semester or all at once?). So that's $2,000 first semester, and then $500 again next semester, plus $1,000 per books (for the whole year?) and I'm thinking perhaps $3,500 in loans? Or...$5,000 in loans if the insurance is $1514 a SEMESTER. I don't know.

Either way - are there any other fees? Anything else I need to take out loan money for? Should I just aim for $3,500 in loans? I'll have work-study as well, I'm approved for around $2,500 of that. I'll probably just use it to pay off my loans early or something.

Thanks in advance everyone! And is the Cornell Health Insurance good?

I would let FA know that you will need student insurance to see if they could up your aid. $1514 is per year.
Do you plan on pledging a fraternity? If so, there will be a fee in Spring. What about spending money($200/mon), transportation home, hockey season ticket (my D hit me up for that, charged to her acct).

Oh yeah - I do want hockey tickets! I was thinking of using my work-study as my spending money, and the little I have in the bank. Thanks for the insurance info.

So..$3,500 in loans a year, that's $10,500 for a Cornell education (I'm a transfer - 3 years)

Is that bad? Good?

Check with FA for your health insurance before you pay out of pocket. $10,000 for Cornell education is a bargain. You should be able to make $3500 from your summer job(s).

soccer guy, tell me what fa office say about the health insurance, cause I'm in a similar situation

Depressed, rural area. No jobs, sadly.

Kartrider, will do!

hey soccerguy, sucks for me too! I'm in a suburban area and there are still no jobs!! :-(

soccer_guy472, you seem to have received relatively much amount of FA, considering you are a transfer. I heard transfers are offered usually well below what is offered for freshmen. but yeah, it is just what I heard on the board. LOL

One great news for you: You will not be charged activity fees or dining admistration fee next semester.

Not necessarily true. My FA package for my first year was very generous and I was left with minimal debt. It was the remaining 2 years that killed me.

You received an extraordinarily impressive FA package?
Do you mind if I ask what your EFC was according to the FAFSA?

My Financial aid was $47,000 - around $45,000 in grants and $2,000 in workstudy.

My EFC was 0, and I'm a sophomore transfer.

Don't know about Cornell, but some schools have IT administration fees to cover wiring & support for computers, or for wireless. Other fees besides the "general" fee may be:

"Service" Fee (no idea)
Transportation (so you get "free" shuttle bus)
Energy Technologies Fee
Cultural Programming Fee
Environmental Fee

etc. These latter were all small but they add up.

Ithaca, depressed? There are plenty of summer jobs there, you just have to know where to look. If you can, look in Binghamton and Elmira as well for summer jobs.

I work at CFCU and a lot of people seem to be out of jobs. The jobs that are available are summer jobs such as cell phone places, supermarkets, etc.

I don't live in Ithaca. I live in a very rural area with no big cities nearby. We don't even have a gas station or fast flood place here - the nearest place for things like that is like 30 minutes away. With gas at this price, it'd be almost pointless to work if I have to drive that far - and even then there are no jobs there.

there are other options too; get a job

I wish people read the fugging thread. Or skimmed it for that matter.

^lol, what do ya mean?

other things to consider:

some gym classes cost money
lab fees
security deposit for next year's housing if you move off campus (usually around 500 dollars)
money for concerts, dinner out in collegetown, transportation for breaks etc.
laundry!

i'll let you know if i think of something else
