The national kind-the ones on fastweb, cappex ect-
Ive applied to a bunch over break. Am i wasting my time?

You are likely to have a lot better luck getting scholarships specifically offered from the colleges where you are actually admitted or local scholarships (Rotary, things like scouts and 4H, etc.). Someone wins those national scholarships, but the pool of applicants is usually pretty large, so your odds are not very good. You might as your high school guidance counselor if they know of any local scholarships you can apply for.

Fwiw, I did earn one of those national scholarships. I am a KFC Scholar, which I found on Fastweb. I also earned many little ones and was a finalist for several others.

Your high school, city, county, and college are going to be your best sources of scholarship money. HOWEVER, I really don’t think it’s a waste of time to apply to national scholarships just in case. If I hadn’t, I’d likely be 20k more in debt. Does it happen to the vast majority of people? No. But it really can’t hurt.

The sweepstakes ones though are a waste. I specifically looked for ones that required a bit more effort because, quite frankly, many students are lazy and the thought of multiple essays makes them avoid the scholarship entirely.

Good luck :)

Even beyond the extremely low odds, recognize that the vast majority of HS seniors don’t continue to participate on CC once they enter college.

Nice job! Those ARE really hard to get.
