I admire your optimism, upenngirl39. It would be almost unnatural not to feel extremely disappointed with a rejection. I think most of us to tend to base our self-esteem on how we believe others view us. A rejection would be so personal, and it would feel as if Penn is telling us that we’re no good. Oh, well. I guess this is part of the growing up process.

The thing that we have to remember is that Penn is a reach school for almost everyone. Plenty of very qualified people get rejected every year. It’s not that we are no good if we get rejected. It just means that we aren’t the best of the best. I honestly don’t know how they can even decide. Almost everyone applying is in the top 10% of their class and has SAT scores that are hundreds of points above average. Almost everyone on this forum is qualified yet the majority of us will be rejected or deferred. It’s just the way it works. I honestly feel bad for the people who have absolutely set their heart on going to Penn because they are just setting themselves up for disappointment. It’s my top choice but it’s by no means the only place I’d want to go.

^ couldn’t agree more… although, i believe everyone is aware of penn’s low admission rate… those who are being optimistic are just trying to prevent themselves from freaking out.

Que Sera, Sera. If it’s meant for you to be there, so be it. If not accepted to UPenn, then another door opens up for you. Think of it as two doors leading to the same room. There are many routes to the same place.

Decisions are in considerably less than two weeks. No point in saying “I think I’m gonna get rejected”…you’ll know soon enough!

Hey, I remember this thread!

I have a 2160 but it was because of my 670 writing (800 M 690 CR)

So I could definitely see a wait list, but I’ve never gotten below an A and my UW is a 4.0. I don’t think they’d just flat out reject that as long as my subjective stuff is golden. Penn’s not my #1 though so I’m not too worried about it.

Not getting in.

I could definitely see a rejection, and definitely a deferment. It’s unlikely that I’ll be accepted. No one from my school goes to/has gone to Penn even though we’re a good private school that sends 100% of graduates to college.

This thread makes me feel better that at least someone else on CC feels that they won’t get in.

I scanned through thread and noticed a bit of misinformation. Here goes…

-75% of students at Penn are in the 2000-2280 range (whoever said 94% is incorrect)
-Interviews are one of the least important parts of your application at Penn (or at almost any school, for that matter)

when you go back and look at some of the posters from last year that were in the beginning of this thread moaning about how they were sure they were not getting into Penn…then search them on the 2014 Penn ED Decision thread…

I did not total all of them…but I think you will find over 60+% of them got in…it would be a nice little psychology study…

The psychology term is called sandbagging. Kids like those on CC keep saying that they will get rejected, fail a test, get a bad SAT score, as a sort of psychological shield in the case that any of those things happen. I don’t know how effective it is, but I do it too. The opposite of sandbagging is overconfidence, and that I think is the more dangerous of the two.

question: Is being deferred from the Jerome Fisher program a possible outcome? or is it straight rejection only and deference to RD wharton?

Actually only 50% scored in the 2000 to 2280 range. 25% scored lower than 2000 and 25% scored higher than 2280.

^ those stats are a little outdated.

Middle 50%
SAT: Critical Reading 660-770
SAT: Math 690-780
SAT: Writing 680-770

a girl getting rejected from all her ivies - it stinks watching this.

well we’ll see

Wow idk what was going through my head when I wrote my earlier post in this thread…

anyone knows how harsh upenn cas ed decisions are? like, have you guys heard of many qualified people being rejected?

^
This is how we found out about them.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pennsylvania/825205-official-university-pennsylvania-class-2014-ed-decision-thread.html

And I’m pretty sure I’m getting a deferral. I have a good SAT score but my high school record is nothing close to stellar and my EC’s are really lacking.

^ CAS ED decisions seem reasonable, but I can’t be too certain about this
