"We strayed off topic 'cuz nobody wants to continue the argument that it's totally all right to support an industry that kills half a million people a year."

No one was making that argument. What I've been saying the whole time is that while I don't currently smoke, nor do I condone addiction, it is not my nor others' place to judge.

It actually is other people's place to judge when second-hand smoke has such widely-publicized affects on cancer rates.

Sorry, but I simply cannot tolerate smoking. The fact that people would spend so much money on a habit that has no positive benefits and causes so much pain (physical and otherwise) to themselves and others is infuriating to me. I can understand why people start and then continue, but it is nonetheless an abhorrent habit.

I agree. If you are going to kill yourself by smoking, that's fine by me. But I am a walking example of what that second-hand smoke can do to others as well.

I must weigh in and agree with the majority about Tobacco. I never liked the smell so I never smoked. Plus, when you see someone with throat/lung cancer due to years of smoking, you won't ever want to...ever.

CDC's stats are bs. If you are found shot to death with a pack of Marlboros in your pocket that counts as a tobacco related death. It was kinda like Bill Clinton claiming 10 kids die an hour or something due to guns. It turns out 'kids' covers age groups 16-24, i.e., the demographic which most gangbangers/drug dealers/juvvies fall into, etc. Whatever child, flex your muscles on the internet and have fun :) If you read up on it (it was a '98 Supreme Court case), basically exposed how ridiculously conconcted the EPA's stats were on ETS and ETS related deaths. The issue of smoking is serious I concede, and it has dangers. No one is denying that.

Smoking isn't dangerous in moderation. Riding a motorcycle is 'dangerous'. Playing sports is 'dangerous'. So, what? Its personal choice. If you have a problem with it, the don't do it!

Um, just go away. You brought nothing new to the table. You smoking is dangerous, yet you smoke anyways? That is stupid, and you cannot even use the "I was naive of the fact that smoking is bad" excuse. How about you listen your own words.
