How many people actually want to be engineers?

^^^
You folks do realize that this thread is over five years old and the OP hasn’t posted since April 2005…right?

^ lol…

But yeah what so wrong about plateauing around 100k/year? That’s plenty to live off of…

Wow I didn’t even notice. I thought it was fishy because I thoguht I remembered justinmeche saying he had a factory job and a family now in some other thread…

Wow. Brain blurp.

OMG…
I spent like 10 minutes reading through this whole thread…
They really need to bold the date or somethiing…=/

Anyone else thinking that ZeroX2 and Z e r o X are the same person, and that he just bumped his own 5 year old post with an update on his personal story?

Haha. It could be. Or maybe a very strange coincidence.

Notice anything interesting?

I want to be an engineer (or a scientist). After taking History, English, Psychology, Communications, and Art History classes I realized I do not enjoy the Humanities and Social Sciences as much as I thought.

I’m still considering studying Philosophy alongside Engineering (or Science) since I am attracted to the intellectual exercise Philosophy demands on the mind but I am definitely not looking forward to writing essays that try to “convince” my professors of whatever position I need to take to obtain an A. To the point, this semester that just ended I decided not to turn in essay assignments for Art History and History because I simply abhor writing essays (yes, I know this is unacceptable behavior; spare me the sermon, please).

Also, I find the Humanities/Social Sciences difficult for that very reason; the challenge they would provide me is simply trying to deal with the mental stress of writing an essay. Did I mention I HATE writing essays?

Mathematics, science, and engineering on the other hand are very, very difficult for me and this is the reason I enjoy them. I love experiencing those “aha!” moments after investing significant amounts of time trying to understand a concept. I feel that the more struggle on something, the more enjoyable the goal is once I reach it (except writing essays, I HATE WRITING ESSAYS).

Just my $0.02 ;P

Did I hear somebody say they hate writing essays?

With a passion. Especially when the professor has a certain political stance coughleftistcough and I have to “shape” my essay to satisfy him/her. This semester that just ended I received a B+ in the History class despite the fact that I was at or near the top of the class; several students did not know who Franklyn D. Roosevelt (!) was or believed A. Hitler was a Communist (!!); we even had a student that suggested Nazi Germany and the US were allies during WWII (!!!).

Weirdest class ever as well, no homework, no quizzes, nothing except two take-home essay assignments that consisted of summarizing certain historical topics. Yeah. I did those, obtained a B+ in each, and when I asked what may I improve the answer I received was “those essays are excellent.” Huh?

What school is this?

The school is within the CUNY (City University of New York) system. The specific school shall remain unnamed (because I wish to remain “anonymous” but I will say it is one of the community colleges).

Woah, ths 5 year gap thing is deep. Is he reflecting on himself?

Yeah I’m not thinking they’re the same person.
