I'm a junior right now, and I'm aiming to take the new SAT around March-May, then again around fall (unless I get some unbelievably mind-blowing score... here's hoping!). But when should I take the SAT IIs? I don't even know what subjects I'm going to take... When do most people take their SAT IIs?

Also, how many SAT IIs do you need for most colleges? You don't have to take the SAT II Writing anymore since it's incorporated into the SAT I, right? So does that mean you only have one math SAT II and another of your choice, or is there an extra one tacked on there to take the Writing's place?

You should take the SAT IIs as soon as possible, but not until you've studied the materials. Most colleges don't require SAT IIs. For those that do require, I think they'll require 2 SAT IIs because the Writing test will be incorporated into SAT I and will no longer be offerred. If you're into Engineering/Sciences, you'll need 1 math and 1 science. Check the intructions of each college you plan to apply to; they tell you everything. You'd not want to discover that you took the wrong tests when the time to fill applications come around.

You'll need to check with some of the colleges that you are considering. Some require math for all applicants, while others say that you need 2 or 3 SAT II's in different subject areas.

I have not seen (of the few schools with which I am familiar) any schools that accept AP scores in lieu of SAT II scores.

Also, many schools currently require Writing SAT II along with ANY other SAT IIs. The exception to this is for many engineering schools, which require Writing, Math, and a subject of your choice.

The only time that I have seen a college that asked for Writing, Math, and a Science is Univeristy of Miami for an advanced admissions program.

Some colleges (such as Duke) also recommend that you take an SAT II Language.

With the new SAT, I would imagine that it would be any two SAT IIs for the majority of the colleges and, for engineering, a Math and another of your choice.
