depends on how many ur school offers

This is just my personal opinion, but I think colleges will like to see you challenging yourself in classes that are interesting and exciting for you. If you're thrilled by AP History, AP Bio, AP Calc, AP Chem, AP Stats, and take them all for those reasons, well, great. But don't kill yourself over a class you hate, and are taking just because it's AP.

Just asking again...

If I take a self-studied AP test and get a terrible score, will that hurt me when I apply to colleges? In other words, should I just not take the test if I'm not sure that I'm ready for it?

Self-studying takes a lot of dedication and intelligence. If you can't handle the AP courses you take at school, certainly don't self-study. However, if you believe you have what it takes, by all means give it a go, but know that there is benefit in taking an AP class taught by an actual teacher.

For my D, 5 APs and the rest honor classes. At D high school, you have to pay for AP books and fees to take these AP tests, they are not free. In addition, there are plenty of kids that got rejected with tons of APs, so there is no need to push it despite what we hear from college admission books, take the most challenging courses, blah, blah........

I have heard that if you have a good solid honors chemistry class and do a lot of practice tests, you can do well on the AP chemistry test.

By the way, the kid who took something like 22 AP tests was the State Scholar of Texas, I believe.

Only nine for me after planning to have 11 total at the beginning of this year.

Sad, I know. lol

I think 3 per year 10th-12th grade is a solid amount. Any more than 3 AP classes per semester and you’re dying or just working so hard you don’t even feel anything. Unless you’re one of those geniuses who doesn’t have to study and still get A’s lol

You dont need 10+ APs to get in top colleges…

I took AP USH in Sophomore, Pre AP Eng in Junior, and AP English and Calc BC in Senior. (Just 3 APs)

Yet I got accepted into NYU Stern and Waitlisted for Upenn =(.

3-5 is normal

But most of the kids at my school are overachievers (we have a freshman who is taking 2 right now, and a sophomore who is taking 4 - including Calc AB and Chem.)…so for the overachiever the average is (like everyone said) about 10.
