How many VERY intelligent people do you know with crap GPA/test scores?

Well, my friend didn't learn calculus, physics etc. properly in high school, so she went to college and started getting crappy grades. She's brilliant and has a photographic memory. But I guess she underestimated the importance of good fundamentals, and learning things well. (And boy, did she pay for it.)

My friend had a 1.5 but did so well on tests and knew so much. He would come to school like 3 days a week. However one time for 2 whole weeks he did not miss a single day of school, only happened once. He knows so much random stuff, andg gets such high test scores. He got transferred to a community college so he can have timing that suit him better so he is not even in high school anymore and he is only 15 (he would be a junior).

Yeah, me. 3.1-3.2 weighted GPA, not-so-great rank. I wouldn't consider myself a genius, but I honestly think I'm more intelligent (math & science aside) than a lot of people in the top quarter of my class.

Me, I understand everything but w/o homework its impossibe to break the B barrier in an of my classes. GPA correlates with dilligence and a very good grasp of self-evaluation.

Well... I'm gifted, according to official IQ tests. I'm definitely not a genius or anything, but I pride myself on my intelligence (though, I'm pretty dim-witted compared to others on CC)... I understand all the material without studying (except for Anatomy, that I have to study for a little), practically tutor everyone else, am probably one of the top in my school in intelligence (but not the top)... But my GPA is crap. 3.13 UW, 3.6 W. I'm just lazy, forgetful, easily distracted, and I procrastinate... All these add up to me not doing my hw. Which is why I get mostly Bs (even with all As on the tests)... Which is why my school doesn't let me take APs... Which is so @!*%ing annoying... It is my fault I know... But I hate being surrounded by people in my classes who shun me because I enjoy learning, and research material outside of the class, and can understand without taking notes. Drives me up a wall.

the GPA is a score that only shows that you have good grades, you may have a really good GPA but you may not be as inteligent as people think. You may also have a bad GPA but that doesn't mean that he is stupid.

Me.....give me a car, computer, anything mechanical and I'll fix it without ever reading a manual or anything put give me a written test and I fail.

One of my buddies has ridiculous SAT scores - he's very smart, excellent writer, even better math aptitude - but he seems to have an aversion to homework and a knack for ****ing teachers off, so his GPA has always been in the toilet.

I'm seriously annoyed by people I know like that. I have a friend who is very intelligent. We just about match each other on SATs and Regents, (I beat her a little bit on the latter), but she has a GPA that started going entirely down the drain in Junior year.

She just never seems to turn in her homework on time, and because of that she went from having a shot at the Ivies to not having a chance in hell.

Personally, I think grades do reflect intelligence to a certain extent, or rather, at least a certain aptitude to learning. I have friends who work several times as hard as I do and study very dilligently, but they struggle with the curriculum and still don't do as well. In contrast, I think it's very stupid and displays a distinct lack of foresight when I see people who are brilliant but tank everything out of sheer laziness.

Someone in my school was going to be recruited to Princeton for hockey and was very, very intelligent but he started smoking a lot of weed and dropped out of school. I know that he scored 2300+ on the SAT though.

yeah people are always like "so what's your gpa? a 4.5?"
and i'm like, "no, it's a 3.5"

you can't really measure intelligence,though...

There is a kid at my school who got a 2370 on the SAT, but only has a 2.1 GPA.

Definitely GPA is a sign of diligence and effort more than intelligence, especially in an unweighted system where you can take absurdly easy classes to get all As... as in my school, where they don't allow weighted GPAs. I think I'm a pretty hard worker, but it isn't my life, and my classes are the toughest I can find... hence my 3.855 and class rank of 44/437. If we weighted APs and honors, I would be more like 2 or 3.

It frustrates me a lot.

almost all of the smartest ppl I've ever met have so/so GPA's. they just don't care about getting good grades on things they dont care about. they put more time into their ET's or passions.

My friends think I have a really high GPA, but I don't. I have a horrible 3.3 :)

@ whillybird....same exact situation here....if my grades were weighted i would be in the top 2%, but right now im in the top 11%... :(

I am like that..

What are you calling intelligence?

Because I think that if a 4.0 can be gotten purely on brute force effort at your school, your school is too easy.

I know two people whose GPA doesn’t adequately express their intelligence, but only one who is truly misrepresented by his GPA.

He was a TASPer and national debate champion with incredible SATs…but something like a 2.2 GPA and a DUI somewhere along the lines. I have no doubt he’s going to end up with a kick-arse job just because someone will be impressed by him along the line.

I know a few druggies who don’t try in anything. It’s pretty weird seeing them high and speaking perfect foreign language…
