How math intensive is a finance major?

I’ve always planned to get a business degree as an undergrad and today I finally decided to major in finance. I’ve taken a look at the descriptions of the courses offered for finance majors at the colleges I’m applying to. It’s all very interesting and appealing to me and I am very eager to learn about those topics.

I am, however, worried about the amount and intensity of the math involved. I wouldn’t say I’m “bad at math” (low 700s on math portion of SAT and high A math average) but I’m certainly not particularly good at it either (I’m a lot slower at understanding things in math class than my peers).

If you majored in finance or know someone who did, can you please share some insight? As a finance major, would I be sitting around doing pages and pages of difficult math problems?

Not really. You don’t really need anything above Calculus for your finance major. Depending on what advanced electives and what career path you want to take, a stronger background in statistics might be helpful. You should be fine.
