Hello everyone, I'm wondering if majoring in finance is a good idea. I'm pretty okay at math but not that great. I took calculus in my high school senior year and passed with a B although I found it a bit difficult. I want to major in business, but I am not quite sure if finance is right for me, even though I am very much interested in the major. Thank you

Majority of math in business is arithmetic and basic algebra, its more about the speed of doing a large volume simple math than it is about the difficulty of the math itself. A good indication (in my opinion) is statistics opposed to calculus.

Thank you :)

I agree, statistics is very valuable when it comes to analyzing any area of business. The ability to do calculations and manipulations quickly in your head is much more important than taking an integral or summing a series. Finance major will be useful in business and you should pursue it if you are interested!

I think Finance is a great major, its interesting, there are good jobs to be had with the degree, etc, etc I don’t think you will have a problem if you got a B in high school calc. My advise is once you take a math course you think might be difficult, check out ratemyproffesor.com look for the best teacher and the easiest grader. Then use some money and hire a good math tutor. You are sure to get an A.
