How much can a computer science major party?

Is it unreasonable to expect that I will have enough time to party at least once a week? I'm not expecting anything to get too crazy, but I was just wondering if I could get away with partying without it negatively affecting my grades. I was also wondering if picking up a job, maybe at a local Mack's Donald, was a good idea. I might need to stay an extra quarter, so I might need some money to cover some expenses.

Probably, but it might be difficult. Computer science, like engineering, is very time-consuming(And we all know how difficult it is for engineering majors to find time to party). You might need to budget your time well.

That will of course depend on the individual. I know some people who work full time, go to school full time, AND have a life. Then I know normal people. You’ll have to see what you can handle by trial and error. As long as you aren’t going to pick a major based on the party time it would allow (which I don’t think you are) this is something you will figure out when the time comes. Not much use worrying now.

It depends on your course load. Programming assignments are due every week. If you get them done you can party easily. Get them done first thing don’t procrastinate.

As a computer science major, you shouldn’t need to take a low wage job during school. Secure an internship: they pay well, you will learn more than any course could possibly teach you, and you will improve your job prospects at the same time. Unless your desire is to pursue graduate school, I wouldn’t slave away putting hours into schoolwork to try to get straight As.

I would try to keep a high GPA if possible regardless of plan for graduate school. You’ll never know how that will help you for job search.

Even if graduate school isn’t in the foreseeable future you never know if you decide to go down the road. My sister graduated from UCLA back in the 1990s with a GPA under 3.0. She’s now trying to go to graduate school and was almost denied because her grade point average from over 15 years ago was low. If you do the best job you can now, you won’t have to worry about your past mistakes haunting you in the future.

Grad school isn’t for me, I really don’t want to condemn myself to two years of poverty.

Lol, anything is possible.

I got the best grades (4.8 GPA) of my life in my last semester of HS being a total jack*** and going crazy, on top of playing a sport at the same time. But HS is a bit different then doing CS at UCSD lol.

@CSB111 hahaha, the last semester of high school is usually the easiest. I guess teachers really don’t want to prevent students from graduating.

@collegedropout1, Still looking for that american pie experience, I see.

Wait… League of Legend doesn’t count as a party?
