How much can an "upward trend" in grades help me?

I'm a junior right now, and planning on majoring in music. I'm all right at it (honors bands/orchestras, can compose music, and somehow managed to win competition that allowed me to perform in Carnegie Hall freshman year). All my music classes have always been A's (not really a big accomplishment).

On the other hand, my academic record has pretty much sucked. I've taken Honors/AP in English, French, and History, and, when I was a freshman, I took honors science (which I failed out of by third marking period.)
I didn't care about my grades at all--I was constantly sleep-deprived, angry at my teachers/the world, and ... hungry. I don't know if any of you guys go to schools like this, but mine offers an "optional" lunch--both freshman and sophomore year, I elected not to take a lunch and was killing myself on a daily basis with 6.5 straight hours of classes. If some assignment wasn't completed overnight (which it 90% of the time wasn't), I was basically screwed for that day.

I wisened up and took a Study Hall this year. Still, I've already managed to butcher my first marking period grades. But let's say I make an amazing turn around and end up with an A average in (almost) every class for this year and next year, ending up with an unweighted GPA of 3.4. Would this look better or worse than getting all B's throughout high school would have? I know probably all the "amazing" top schools are out of the question, and that I'll still probably have a sucky class rank and bla bla bla, but is there any hope for me?

Thankssss!
