How much can I expect FAFSA to give me if my parents' combined income is around $40,000? Thanks!

FAFSA doesn’t give you anything. It’s an application to determine EFC and to determine eligibility for federal aid. However, EFC is not the minimum a family has to pay.

Most schools cannot meet need, so even if your EFC is - say - 1000, a school that costs $22k to attend may give you an FA package that only covers half of the costs.

Use this to find out likely EFC

Alright, thank you very much. Very helpful link, thanks!

My family has a similar income and my EFC was 0. However, financial aid is mainly based on what the school feels they should give you; some schools even have their own financial aid calculator.
