How much can I raise my grade from a 1510?

I am currently a junior and I received my result of a 1510(math:510, writing: 520, CR: 480) which I am extremely disappointed in. I am striving to go to a competitive school(UCLA, Berekey, maybe even cornel) but I really will not if I don't improve my score. I'm taking the June test and I was wondering how I should study. Is it possible for my ultimate goal to be 1950+? My twin didn't study either and got a 1710( not good enough for a competitive school but still easier to improve than me) and I'm going for a 1780, probably 1800+. Critical reading is my worst subject and I have to clue how I could improve.

Sorry I meant Berkeley.

Day 1: math from 1 test
Day 2: reading from 1
Day 3: writing from 1
Day 4: break/vocab? I don’t really believe in spending a long time studying vocab…

Do this until June.

I went from a 1420 to a 2210 so you can definitely make it. I was recently accepted to cornell although I’m probably going to attend duke. Don’t give up, with practice theres no limit to how much you can achieve.

Oh my goodness, spuding102, you have just given me so much hope! Thank you, but I do only have until December ( roughly 7 months) to improve my score. Did you take a class, use books, or a private tutor? I know it won’t be easy AT ALL but I’m willing to put all of my effort into it.

I’m confused…

Are you retaking the SAT in June or in December?

I am retaking the test in June, but the last SAT test is in December so If I don’t achieve my goal by June I have until December to improve.

Without knowing anything about your intellect or ability, I’m guessing that 1800 is within reach by June. For math, go see the best math teacher at your school and do it right away. The verbal stuff is a different issue. Do some research online but be wary of all sources. I’d need to see a writing sample in order to give you more specific suggestions.

I just posted the info below in response to another question. It may be helpful for your math scores.

I think Gruber’s and PWN the SAT could be very helpful. I don’t know your financial situation so I can’t say if they’re worth the cost. There is a website associated with PWN the SAT that may provide some useful help for free.

^I have the [Gruber’s] full SAT guide but only use the math part. I think you’d benefit from both Gruber and PWN. You could also search this forum for posts by Dr. Steve and pkeller, they both have a lot of useful info. So if you start off by buying Gruber’s, using the PWN website and this forum you’ll be well on your way.
