How much clothing?

So I'm going to be living in a triple, and I'm not sure how much clothing and pairs of shoes I should bring.

I live pretty close to Berkeley, so I'll probably be able to go home every few weeks to do laundry, and if I have to, I can go back every weekend.

How much clothing, and how many pairs of shoes do people usually bring?

You're fortunate in that you have the ability to go home and not be too worried about limiting yourself with what clothes you first bring. No one cares about what you wear at Berkeley. Just bring the essentials, jeans, underwear, socks, shirts, outerwear, etc., and maybe something for partying or fancy events. You don't need that many clothes unless you only like to wear a certain thing once a month. As for shoes, flip flops, comfortable shoes for walking, heels or flats if you're a girl, and boots for the cold will be enough. Don't worry about this. Just don't bring too much because you only have so little space.

I hear the engineers just bring loincloths.

As shua was asking, how many articles of clothing do you need? Possibly, 2 weeks worth?

Call me stupid, but I have no idea why the engineers would only bring loinclothes.

True engineers have no reason to leave the computer. The only reason they would need loincloths is so that when they leave the computer for only the two absolute necessities (going to the bathroom and getting the pizza that they ordered), they won't be arrested for indecent exposure.

But in all seriousness, 2 weeks' worth was just fine for me.

hmm that means 14 tshirts. 14 pairs of underwear. 14 pairs of jeans. 14 pairs of socks. hopefully it fits.

You forgot that tshirts and underwear are reversible!

14 pairs of jeans? More like 4 or 5 would be fine. It's not uncommon to rotate through your jeans during the week and wash them after a couple of wears. Plus double digit number of jeans is an insane amount to fit in your dorm.

ohh yea. haha.. reversible shorts..underwears..tshirts..socks :). verryy nice

If in a triple, how is all that clothing going to fit in the closet? Are the closets that big?

Is it also advisable to bring a set of formal clothing for job interviews and stuff?

Dude, just bring whatever you'll think you may need, given the parameter that in a triple, closet space is at an absolute premium. We're not here to predict the future or plan out your life.

Do know that there IS a Res Hall Boat Dance in the spring semester, so you'll need formalwear for that if you plan on going(and not business formalwear, more like dress formalwear). But again, it's in the spring, so you might think about just bringing it after you come back from winter break.

In unit 1 triples, are there two closets or three closets? just wondering. i'm in freeborn and i was wondering whether two of us would have to share.

There are 2 closets and yes you must share. There is one large dresser with 6 drawers also.

Do I have room to bring a mini bookcase inside a triple? or is that too much? I really wanted to bring this bookcase :(

you won't have room for a bookcase. they do provide you with a thin bookcase which you can see in one of the pictures on the following website.

UCB Unit 1 Housing - Buildings - Highrise/Towers - Photo Gallery

Would I have room for a minifridge and a TV? Where in the dorm rooms are ethernet located (I know an ethernet cord is needed). Would I need a cord for a TV?

do the laundry machines in the res halls accept dollar bills or just quarters? how much do they cost for a wash and/or dry? also, do they dispose change? :p

thank you!

Use your Cal1 card for the washers and dryers - no change needed.

If you are in a double, minifridge + tv are ok. dont think so for a triple.

In Unit 1&2 ethernet jacks are located in the middle of the room under the windows right above the floor. you need at least 10 ft, 25ft recommended if you like working in bed. I believe Unit 3's are different.

Laundry machines acept quarters only, no dimes, nickels, other change. It is $1.50 for a wash, $1.00 for drying. No change disposed. cal 1 card def. recommended if you do laundry often.
