How Much Debt for NON-TOP 25 law school

Right now, I would not advise taking any debt to attend a law school outside the top 25. The job market is improving so my answer might change next year. For right now, I would work and save money for at least a year.

What if someone was paying to go to a school like Howard which was non-top 25 but had comparable employment outcomes to the top 25 programs since they have excellent placement and are in D.C.?

Students graduating at the top of the class at Howard can do well, but I still wouldn’t go into debt to go there.

XFM: I’ll admit I’m a skeptic, but be wary of any law school’s published graduate employment/salary stats. A better bet would be to talk with 3Ls at the school; you’ll get a better sense of that school’s real world hiring stats.

At a recent gathering for admitted students a 3L was sitting outside with a sign that said IT’S A TRAP. I spoke with him for a few minutes but he didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know. He has applied for 450 jobs and has no offers.

I wish I had the nerve to ask where he ranked in his class.

Zoey, can I ask what school this was???

Kayf- tried to pm you but your box is full.

Zoey,

Is school in or outside T-14?

Is school within 15-25?

Do you know if student in question took out a lot of debt to attend?

Zoey, just emptied mail, please retry, many.many thanks
