How much did you spend on applying to colleges?

Exclude traveling costs.

Omg. When I look at the $60-70 application fee for 11 schools, plus SAT score reports, plus ACT score reports, and I totally forgot about AP score reports, it comes out to more than $900!

Music applications require a prescreening CD which means we paid somebody to record in a studio as well as the piano accompanist. I can exclude the travel to 8 schools by plane and the hotel/meal costs/car rental. But we also paid for “sample” lessons with various teachers (14) but did not have to pay them all. Conservatory application fees range up to $150. Another side cost is all the copies you make (music in our case) and we send application materials so they can be tracked.

You don’t need to send AP score reports. You self-report AP scores. Then, this May when you take your senior year AP exams, you list the code of your chosen school, and then ALL your AP scores will be sent in July.

$25 in actual application fees. I only applied to one school, and by the time I going to apply to others, I had already been accepted to my #1 choice. Include whatever it costs to take SATs (x2) and ACTs.

About $150 on four apps, the rest were free.

Including application fees, transcript fees, and test score sending fees, by the time I’m done I’ll have spent about $500.

$0.00

My school doesn’t charge a transcript fee. My two apps were free.

I spent $57 in sending my SAT scores. Everything else was waived by CollegeBoard or QuestBridge. I applied to 8 schools.

EDIT: I also spent $14 on transcripts. So I spent $71.

As a transfer student, I spent $300 on 4 schools. ~$50/app and a RIDICULOUS $25/ACT report! No… OUTRAGEOUS! $17 “archive fee” PER REPORT, my ASS.

$0.00

Application submitted on “apply free day”. No charge for the first HS transcript. No ACT/SAT exams taken because they aren’t required.

Happykid is “One and done”.

Son #2: …around $100. One “pay” app, a few test score reports sent that weren’t captured at test time for free. 6 college apps total.

Maybe this is really not part of the application but don’t forget the CSS profile fee. Most schools that I have seen need CSS done before you actually get acceptance reply in May.

Excluding travel costs, over $700. Yikes.

B/c I rely on how colleges see my High SAT/GPA ratio because of my circumstances
And b/c I am doing Aerospace Engineering

I have spent over $2000

Wow I fail

I’m currently in the process of applying to colleges and sending SAT scores…but I’m positive when I’m done with everything I will have spent around $1000.

excluding travel costs:
~$395 in application fees
~$50 ACT Score fees
plus the cost of the actual tests (ACT x3 SAT x2)

Yes, been a nice chunk of change. Been worth it, though, because have a lot of choices and the list is already whittled down because of small offers and honors rejections.

Still waiting on the top choices. But at least the app fees and scores are all sent now.

Will be very frugal with deposits from now on. Need to give me a VERY GOOD offer before I send in a nonrefundable deposit in the three digits.

APPLICATIONS only, including fees for scores (no travel, no tests…I don’t think of those as application fees)…

7 applications…probably about $600 in total (fee plus SAT plus ACT plus updated SAT, etc.). Pretty tiny thing compared to $60,000 COA at top schools.

What about the SAT / ACT tutor…didn’t any of you have one to help boost your scores ?
$120 / hour but worth it as daughter’s scores jumped more than 100 points…PLUS private college counselor because her counselor, who has only FIVE students, is mediocre…this is at an elite private school where they took THREE weeks to send the transcripts after the request in writing. Oh yes, I know we’re not supposed to include the travel costs…but what the heck. Daughter wanted to see an overview of the college scene…visited maybe 7 schools…some on planes…and then, yes there are the apps for the multiple schools she’s considering. So I figure, maybe $8,000. ( I applied to 3 schools…got in to all three…never visited any ) But she’s a good kid, works hard and I love her <g></g>
