How much do colleges care about Midyear grades?

I’ve been accepted into northeastern university and Boston college, but I’ve also applied to some Ivy League type schools. All these colleges request a mid year grade report which for my school includes second trimester progress reports. The only problem I have is AP physics (very unfortunate for me as an engineering major). Last trimester I had a 100 because of extra credit, but I had a solid A without it too. But this term, based solely on 3 small assignments, I think I’ve got a C or a D. My teacher has already said no more extra credit and there won’t be many more assignments before progress reports. It’s really stupid because I know I can bring my grade up to an A after some real tests but right now, colleges will see a bad physics grade. Is that going to cut any chance of me getting in anywhere or worse, a loss of admission where I’ve already gotten in?

Thanks for reading this. The thing is I’m a straight A student who has never had to worry about getting a B, let alone a C or a D.

A C or D on your midyear will reflect negatively.

Try talking to your teacher and see if it can be adjusted.
A more likely option is ofcourse, talking to your counselor and requesting her to include the scenario in her LOR.

A D is very bad. It may even put your acceptances in danger.

What about a C in an honors course? Is that too bad for a mid-year reports? I am in the same situation and coincidentally it’s in physics.

C’s generally are not bad for colleges at which you’ve already been accepted (no Ds, Fs or Felonies). For highly competitive schools like Ivies, not good.
