I only have a couple extracurricular activities (Ambassadors Club and Best Buddies) that I can put on my application and no volunteering hours so far. My school does not offer a wide variety of activities to participate in, and I’ve never been athletically inclined or a theater person (in terms of acting). My friend and I are trying to start up a science club (since that is where my interests are) and I am planning on being the president of said club. Would that be a good addition to my application or would it not look as great because it would be in my junior/senior year? Is that the kind of leadership that colleges talk about wanting to see?
Yes, a leadership position would help you, but you are not limited to activities offered by your HS. Community service/volunteering and even a part time job are good EC’s. Pursue activities you enjoy and not just for the sake of “looking good” on a college application.
