How much do senior grades affect admissions?

Hi! Just kind of curious for schools that do not offer EA, how much do senior year grades affect admissions? Thanks!

Just as much as junior year. Some kids are on an upward trend senior year, and that helps. A downward trend has the opposite impact.

cool thanks!

But if admitted and they get your final transcripts that show D’s due to senioritis they can and will rescind your acceptance.

MOST schools do not consider senior grades.

If you fail all of your senior classes, that’s a problem. But if you GPA goes down a minor amount, you should be fine.

Top 50 schools are the ones that will care the most

Thanks!! So could having a really strong GPA with rigorous courses potentially help chances of admissions?!

Well, yes.

I believe having a rigorous senior course load listed on you transcript or application would impact admissions more than the actual grades you make in the classes

In your posting history, you’re aiming for some selective schools. What @Jpgranier says does not apply, then since they’re top 50 schools.

Your first semester Senior year is one-seventh of your transcript, supposedly the apex of your academic achievement — a year when competitive applicants are taking their MOST rigorous courses. Colleges see your senior class choices and achievement – which are some of the BEST indicators of future college success and how you might utilize their classes.

IMHO, your three MOST important semesters are this one and your two Junior year semesters.

@studygirl89 , I agree with @T26E4. They’re looking to see what kind of student you are – not what kind you were! And FWIW, if you end up on a WL (and our experience is that this happens a lot!), continuing to do well (and maybe even having a teacher write an additional recommendation saying how you’ve stayed engaged and kept working) can be the thing that gets you off the WL. It shows your commitment to learning. Personally, my advice is just keep working hard.

Wow thanks that is great advice!! I really appreciate it!!!

Unlike what @Jpgranier said, senior schedule and grades do count. If a selective college sees a student who took it easy senior year in terms of course rigor as compared to other years that makes them wonder. If then in that weak schedule the student doesn’t have good grades that could tank the application.

Selective schools have very competitive applicant pools. You do not want to stand out for the wrong reasons.

@ClarinetDad16 I don’t understand what you’re disagreeing with me about? You pretty much repeated everything I’ve said.

Most schools are not competitive. Although the majority of schools you and other students on CC are interested in are selective.

An A/A- student pulling mostly Bs is a lot different than getting Fs.

What would happen if I’m like a B/C student already accepted. Would C’s hurt me?
