How much do you think Columbia will care if I used my Chicago essay?

Their question was pretty broad and my essay definitely addresses it. It's still about me and communicates things that aren't communicatd in the rest of the app.

But if one is familiar with the Chicago prompts, it's quite obvious that this essay was designed to answer a Chicago question. And it was...it's basically my Chicago essay modified and truncated.

I'm willing to share it with some people if they post their emails.

So is reusing essays really bad? Will they notice?

I used my main essay with every college. They prob shouldn't care. A lot of people do that. Hell, Duke said, for one of their essay questions, you can reuse one of your other college essays. Thye just want to see what you think and how well you write.

the danger with that is it's so specific they'll know it's not from them, and they might not be happy that you didn't write an original peice, of course I don't really know that, I'm just speculating, better safe than sorry

I also used the same essay for every single college. Anyone with a slight idea of Cornell's application knows that it's a Cornell essay, but in the end it didn't really matter much.

I'm wondering the extent to which this is obvious...AngelNikki1@yahoo.com

It's just that UChicago's are so different, there's no possibility of them not knowing that, it seems like you're giving them the short end of the stick if you get my meaning

"I'm wondering the extent to which this is obvious...AngelNikki1@yahoo.com" - what do u mean by that...

"It's just that UChicago's are so different, there's no possibility of them not knowing that, it seems like you're giving them the short end of the stick if you get my meaning" - i do kinda agree with this ... yeh.. chicago's essays are so distinct .. if the columbia adcom knows chicago's prompts (but i dont know why they would bother reading their prompts) it may be quite obvious to them.. it probably doesnt matter tho

well it's just that adcoms know a lot about the elite schools, and Chicago is a very strong school- kind of how it's hard to transfer from ivy to ivy since they have some connection going on, I would imagine they know their prompts. Of course does it matter- no one really knows

If you're talking about the mustard one, I think they would definitely know it, definitely be able to recognize and definitely not like that it's kind of saying you put more effort into UChicago. So, I would definitely not do it.
