How much does a Withdrawal hurt when transferring?

How much does a withdrawal hurt when transferring if I still have high grades in my three other classes? Do you think I should not withdrawal if I can manage to get a C+ or B or would it be better to just get the Withdrawal/Pass with A's in my other three classes?

Thank you

Withdrawal. Keep your high GPA definitely.

You can explain a W...GPA's speak for themselves.

I've transferred with a W before, it didn't hurt me at all, and I still have a 4.0. Besides, if you're a good student, there's a good reason that you would Withdrawal.

Is "withdraw" the same as "resign?" Just wondering...

I'm transferring with a 'W' as well! My plan is to do all 'A's in the rest of my classes so they hopefully overlook it. I assume no institution holds a W in your first semester of college, like I have, work against you! Good luck!

well...it's equally easy for people to say that they have "w" s and they PLAN to get all As in the rest....

I am only a freshmen applying for sophomore transfer though so they would only have 3 grades and a withdrawal to look at on my application. Does that change the situation?

We need to know more about your situation.

If you withdraw, you will only have 3 classes? That appears, without more information, to be a very light load, and could certainly hurt you.

What is your field? What course are you considering dropping and how does it relate to your intended major?

Most importantly, why are you giving up so soon? Have you visited prof ofc hours and made a plan to take all of the other steps that could help you raise that grade? There is lots of time left in the term.

ETA: if you think you can get a B?!!! Do NOT withdraw. That is my strong recommendation unless you provide more details that changes our understanding of the situation.

Me and andale will get married one day

im planning to withdraw from a class, because i got a c on my theology midterm, im premed btw, but its a junior level elective and im a freshman, Currently Im getting a B- in the class, and the highest possible grade would be a B+ if I ace the finals. If I drop, and maintain the other A's i have, i will get a 4.0 gpa with 1 W, if i dont, then i will maintain a 3.84... what to do?

btw im applying to transfer to yale, brown, cornell cals/cas, michigan, maybe wisconsin or berkley

what is a withdrawal anyway? if i start out with 5 courses and after teh first first week of classes i decide to drop one, then will that fifth course be a W on my transcript eventhough i took like 2-3 classes of it?

as long as you explain any discrepancies on your record when transferring then you don't have to worry. with that said if you consistently drop 1, 2, 3,+ courses each year, the institution you are applying to will see that as you are incompetent in selecting classes and you may not be ready for their classes (assuming you are moving up). If you are withdrawing from upper level courses don't make a habit of it. I did that this year dropping my econ class for my honors marketing class... so actually moving up - but i still sent a letter explaining why i did so, even though it didn't pertain to my major.

som1 - you only get a withdrawal after a certain time - some schools go a week - others go a month or more and after that it is WF or WP (pass or fail) - there is a difference between dropping a class while you can still register for others and switch and a witdrawal. a dropped class will not show on your record. a W will

Ok, so I will be transfering in Fall 2017. I will start apply to top college and universities after this semester, using the most current transcript (Fall 2016) to apply to satisfy deadlines and due date that may come up in the middle of next semester.

My problem is:I messed up the first 2 semesters when I first started, due to medical reasons. A few laters and I’m back and retaken nearly all F’s or O’s with an A.

I have on classes left: History (Current grade is a C) - If I take this class as a term II class (8 week) I can make the A and replace that C. Replacing the C with an A will raise my potential GPA to a combine 3.78.

My current GPA is a 3.69 after completing the rest of my classes and WITHOUT taking the history class.

I am taking 19 credit hours currently.

If I want to take the History class I must drop my 4 hour ecology class and then replace it with history so I do not go in crazy overload status.

Now My Question IS;

Will it look better if :

I drop the ecology class, (this will show on my transcript, it will look like I tried to take 22 credit hours and then dropped to 18 because I couldnt handle it) (this is also the last semester that I will have on my transcript before I start applying to transfer, as the Spring 2017 semester will not be completed as of yet) and have a 3.78 GPA

OR:

I continue how I am (19, credit hours) and leave the history class as a C (from my first semester years ago, the rest of my classes that were bad or failed have been repaired) and take my chances and apply with a 3.69?

Which will look better when applying top schools??

There are pros and cons of both but I do not know what to do??

Having All A’s the last three semesters shows that something was up when I failed all those years ago (4). IT also shows that I am now not being interfered by external means. If I have a recent withdraw (W) on my transcript, doesn’t this kind of take away that impression?

Keeping it how I am reduces that chance of looking bad in recent semesters but also brings my GPA down and leaves me with a C on my transcript (albeit, it is in a semester that I failed all classes due to medical. Those other classes have been repaired though)

Also, I am in leadership in 2 different club/acrtivites, AmeriCorps 10 Alummni, 2000 hours of community service, campus garden founder, and around 7 or 8 other school activites including debate, student boards.

Will be in Honors Gamma Beta Phi and will graduate with honors from my CC (this will not be reflected on my transcript until next semester though) I am also a volunteer and paid tutor

Cornell is my top reach.

What do you think?
