How much does ACT prepartion matter?

For the final ACT score? I'm about to graduate college, so this is long behind me, but I'm just curious. I scored a 24, but I studied/prepared approximately 0 hours and 0 minutes for the test. I did not study much during HS or the first two years of college. Now I study very hard for college. I went from Cs and Ds in college to mostly As.

So is the ACT like an IQ test in which studying supposedly doesn't matter? Or does studying help? If so how much?

wow I am surprised there are actually human asking question like this

sorry to be rude

to answer your question, no, ACT and SAT are IQ test, where stupid people will score low and smart people will score high. And people who doesn’t understand sarcasm are the ones scoring below national average.

Yes! Preparing for the ACT actually does help tremendously! The ACT, unlike the SAT, is not an intellectual type test. It is strictly based from the material you should have learned in HS. Some might say that studying doesn’t help, but it’s how you “study” for this test that matters. Simply cramming a bunch of useless math formulas into your head the night before will not help. Instead, take many and many practice tests in the time leading up to your test date. The biggest advantage you can give yourself on this test is familiarizing yourself with the material and structure of it. These practice sittings help you learn how to pace yourself because the majority of people, including myself, believe that the time limit is the hardest component of the ACT. Also, picking up a review book or going to some handy websites can help you out with some valuable tips and time-savers. A good review site is SparkNotes.com It dedicates an entire section to ACT prep.

FYI, I’m still trying to better my score as well! I’ve taken it 3 times (26, 28, 30) and am taking for the 4th time next Saturday. The math kills me! I’ve been attending an ACT review class this week that one of my former teachers offered at a special rate to her past students(She usually teaches this class for hundreds of dollars.) and plan on taking some more practice tests this weekend. Hope I helped! I’ll be a senior in HS this fall.
