how about international? is that worse or better than asian?

international is a whole nother competition pool, so you could argue that the two are equally competitive in their own rights

It really depends on the school you go to and what you do in high school. If you want to go to a place like Stanford or UCLA or basically any UC school, it'll probably be tough. Or any Ivy League too. Look at the colleges' stats where you want to apply and see how much of a percentage there are of Asians. The higher the percentage, the slightly harder chance you'll have. But I wouldn't think it'd be entirely huge to the point where they won't accept you. And unless your name clearly says it, you can always just not put down what ethnicity you are. And if you're Korean, it's also going to be more of a hindrance, I think. (This is in my opinion, but I am Korean so who knows.)

ok im 50% chinese, 37.5% irish and 12.5% german, do i have to call myself asian, or can i call my self bi/multiracial, because thats another option on most of those sheet things. By being "multiracial" does that release me from the asian disadvantage?

Does being South Asian hurt too when applying to schools like Princeton or Yale?

Being asian only potentially hurts if you're applying to the handful of schools where it seems every asian in the country applies. Think outside of the box, broaden your list, and being asian becomes a potential positive in admissions. :)

It probably hurts the most at MIT/CalTech

would being first generation irish-american, but being raised in the US as a dual citizen, help at all? im still white, but never really considered whether or not it would do anything

what exactly is considered a "first generation" student? my parents were born in china and moved to the us when they were in their 20's. does that mean i am a first generation?

what about about an australian chinese?

or is it ok if I done mention my race at all?

Does anyone know how much being a first generation high school as well as college goer would balance out the asian aspect?

Does it hurt when applying to schools that are trying to get rid of their white images a.k.a Princeton or Dartmouth?

Hoping not considering I am Jewish, lol.

I asked if being asian hurts when applying to Princeton?

Either the person before you deleted their post or it was reported...I wasn't respinding to your post.

Could you still answer my question?

I have no idea...I'm only a sophmore.

Bump. (10 chars)

I think instead of asking a bunch of strangers, being that no one here apparently knows, it'd be a lot more helpful to check out a book at the library about college admissions...

but this site is very helpful. I found out that as an Asian, it's gonna suck more for me. Yay :)
