Hey guys! I just got into Cornell...Rejected by all the other Ivies, dartmouth waitlist. :( I'm just thankful I at least got a decent school.

However, money is really a big factor for me. My parents make like $72000....Just average middle class. I also have two younger siblings. So it got me worried.

How much would I have to pay for Cornell each year? I've heard something about its new FA initiative but I am uncertain about how it's future effects on me. I also surprisingly got the Rawlings Presidential Research Scholar...basically endowing me $4000 FA per year. Although I'm really thrilled about the scholars thing, if I have to end up paying like $50k/year, $4k won't do much.

My question then is, how much would our family pay for each year? Truly not $50k/ year right??

All help would be much appreciated...Please help a lost senior!

2008-09 Student Budget:

Tuition and Fees $36,504.00
Room Fee 6,950.00
Dining Plan 4,690.00
Books and Supplies 740.00
Miscellaneous 1,520.00
Winter Break Expenses 1,462.00
Health & Accident Insurance 1,434.00
Transition Allowance 850.00

Total Expenses $54,150.00

I got it by e-mail.

Which college were you accepted into? The above budget is for the endowed college...a contract college would be less.

Also...since your parent income is less than $75,000 any need based aid will be covered entirely with grant money. However, there is still the parent and student contribution to consider. If you couldn't physically write a check for that then you will need a loan for that.

Thanks guys

I got into Human Ecology. A Non NY resident.
According to:
http://finaid.cornell.edu/Shared/Costs.htm
the difference in cost between a contract college and an endowed college is only $1000. Am I being to neurotic? I have faith that Cornell will make the cost affordable to me.

They will certainly do the best they can :-)

dewdrop, how much grant $ does Cornell give out to middle class ppl below 75K?

Total cost - family resources (parent contribution, student assets) = net need

all of the net need will be covered with grants for people under 75K

Thank you...I've noticed across the threads that you were a really dependable source.

so! I have another question, does that $75000 start for the 09-10 year? I thought for the 08-09 year, the cut of was $60000 in the finaid cornell article... could you please verify this?

Your family would probably have to pay around $10,000 a year.

Cornell Chronicle: Sweeping new financial aid initiative

The new FA policy starts in the 08-09 year!! The 75K does not begin until the 09-10 year...so you are correct that the limit for no-loan is 60K this year
