According to my counselor and professor, IB increases your admission chance for getting into IVY league schools. Is that true?

If you take all IB classes and all AP classes there’s no difference between the two. From our “Ask the Dean” forum: [AP vs. IB? - Ask The Dean](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/archives/ap-vs-ib.htm)

It is interesting, though, that Columbia has a 51% acceptance rate for IB students (from the IBO site), but I’m fairly certain most universities of that nature (with a super-strict core) have more of a self-selecting process that helps IB statistically stand out.

You get an automatic top course rigor rating if you go for the diploma.

Do you know if MIT chooses IB over regular students?

Over regular students, sure. Not AP students. Doing IB helps you no further than by establishing you as someone with a rigorous curriculum.

It still is kinda confusing then AP>IB?

They’re equal, so no. However, I could make the argument 8 AP classes in a year would be valued over 6/7 IB classes, but I seriously doubt you’d take a hit for that considering most people take 5-6 APs overall.

Good. Im taking IB classes and I just wanted to find more information about it.

But make sure that your IB program offers HL in the subjects which you are most interested in and best at.

Yea I’m in IB too and our school has had a slow upward trend of students in our program getting accepted into Columbia. Our counselor said they’re seeing the IB students are excelling at their school and are more enticed to let them in.
