large alumni base = not really
small = yes or maybe</p>
<p>I would guess it to be like a deciding factor between several applicants with similar caliber, but not like an automatic guarantee.</p>
<p>I think that it helps A LOT.</p>
<p>the only people who got into the name brand ives (ie. Harvard and Yale) from my school were legacies. All the rest were literally rejected from everywhere.</p>
<p>And I go to an incredible school....</p>
<p>I don't know to what degree it helps you, but it probably does. One guy from our school got into Stanford and was a legacy, beating out a girl with both stronger academics and ECs who ended up getting into some Ivies.</p>
