When I signed up for the FAFSA it said I am legible for the full amount.( I still don’t get it) The college I am going to has the room and board at 4,917.00 for the highest meal plan and its per semester. So my question will the FAFSA be able to pay for it or do I have to plan for a bigger loan or worse having to drive 3 hours. I don’t want the hassle so I was wonder exactly how much covers per semester.
If your FAFSA returned an EFC of $0, you will qualify for the full Pell grant, but that is only $5920 for next year. Not per semester, per year, so it won’t be enough to cover your full room and meal plan.
You may also qualify for an supplemental grant (SEOG) and that can be $500-2000 or so. You may qualify for some financial aid from your school or state.
FAFSA is a financial aid application form. It does NOT award financial aid. The information on it is used to determine your eligibility for federally funded need based aid.
When you completed the FAFSA, you should have gotten a SAR with an EFC on it. What was that EFC number? If it was $0, you would get a $5900 Pell Grant guaranteed…and you could take a $5500 student loan in your name.
That totals $11,400 for the FULL year.
At this point…from what you are posting…that barely covers your room and board costs which are almost $10,000 for the year.
What is the total cost of attendance at this college…not just room and board…but the total cost to attend? This would include tuition, fees, room and board.
If your EFC is $0…the $11,400 will likely cover the cost of a community college for the year…but probably won’t cover a four year residential college including living on campus.
Don’t count on the FSEOG…as cutting it is in the Prosper guidelines being discussed for higher education at the federal level.

At this point, you really don’t know if this is the college you’ll be going to. The R&B is 10k per year. How much is the tuition?
Which school is this? What is the total cost of the school.
What is your home state?
It’s very likely that you won’t get enough aid to attend this school. You mention in another thread that you’re not that great of a student, so it doesn’t sound like you’d get a merit scholarship. It sounds like you’ll be gapped.
