So I chose Business as my primary major, but recently have been having doubts about my chances of getting into McCombs. I was wondering if you don’t get accepted into your first choice major, the likelihood that they would consider your second choice major? My second choice major was Biology, and I feel better about my chances of getting into the Biology program as opposed to McCombs.
Stats:
Class Rank: 103/856 (My downfall, but I go to one of the most competitive schools in the state, does this factor into the admission decision at all?)
9 AP Courses
GPA: 3.67 UW, 4.75 Weighted
SAT: 2160 (680 Math, 740 Reading, 740 Writing)
ACT: 32 Composite (30 Math, 34 English, 33 Reading, 32 Science:
Bilingual, South Asian Minority
Distinguished Achievement graduation program
EC’s:
President of Business Professional’s of America Organization at my school for 3 years
Competed on a state level in Business Professionals of America for 2 years
National Honor’s Society for 3 years
Math Honor’s Society for 3 years
AP Scholar with Honor
National Merit Scholarship Commended Scholar
Job at Kumon Math and Reading Center for 13 hours per week for 2 years and counting
Member of Junior World Affairs Council, Environmental Club, and Cultural Club at my school for 2 years and counting
Over 60 hours of Community service
I feel like statistics like this call for an outside shot at McCombs, but my biggest fear is that my class rank not being auto-admit is enough to deny me admission to the school entirely. Is my 2nd choice major of Biology a possibility with these kind of statistics? I really hate the idea of auto-admission because not all high schools have the same amount of rigor and I feel like if I went to a different high school I’d have a much much easier time getting to the top 7 %.
Thanks y’all!
