First/Second Choice Majors

Will choosing a harder-to-get-into first choice major hurt my chances for getting into my second choice major? For example, if I applied to McCombs as my first choice and COLA Econ as my second choice, will getting rejected from McCombs lower my chances for getting into Econ?

@KingGriffith A good friend of mine did exactly that. Applied for McCombs as first choice and Econ for second. Got Econ. Was an auto admit. #2 out of like 800 but SAT score was only decent.

It does not. It happened when the space for McCombs is filled and thus they give you second choice.

No it doesn’t, that’s actually what you are encouraged to do. I placed the relatively easier major in the 1st place and then the second is harder, big mistake that I didn’t realize at that time. Luckily I got my preferred major since otherwise the chances of getting into the other harder major would be even lower.
