How much does years of language affect admissions?

Because of scheduling issues, I won't be able to take a foreign language next year, so I'll only have 3 years of it on my transcript...
I know that with the schedule I have right now and other activities that I'll be involved in, I'll be very busy next year, so I really don't want to take an online course if at all avoidable...will this hurt me a lot? Basically, how important is 4 years of language on my resume, especially under these circumstances?

A college won’t accept nor deny you acceptance because you took 3 years of a foreign language. Same can be said with 4 years of language. Don’t lose sleep over it. Its not a big deal.

^
What about 2 years?..

What about 1 year?..

Different schools have different requirements. My high school only required 2 years, and we had people go to HYPS.
If you have a scheduling conflict that another issue totally, as long you are taking the most rigorous course load offered, you should be fine. Just make sure your gc mentions that on her letter.

thanks guys

hahahahah: did the people who got into HYPS only take 2 yrs though? I mean, just because the requirement is 2 doesn’t mean they only took 2…

It depends on the school. Many schools consider foreign language to be a core subject. If you choose another class you need to make sure it is going to add something to your resume. For example, you may really WANT to take Art 2 which will create a schedule conflict. Art 2 will be a ‘neutral’ on your resume. It doesn’t add anything. If you are taking AP Psych (which in turn creates the conflict) then I’d say it is a decent choice. You only have a limited number of classes. They are currency. Make them count.
