I'm a rising sophomore in college and my freshman year GPA was awful... I ended up wih a 2.7 (the result of a poor decision to lump all my math and science courses in one semester.) I know it'll be higher by the time I'm done but the bad grades this past semester are just discouraging. I'm trying to work on beefing up the work experience part of my resum

2.7 isn’t too terrible for one semester. Not sure how cutthroat the jobs are that you’re trying to get, but I’m sure you’ll be able to pull it up enough. Arguably the most competitive field to get into out of college, investment banking, has an unwritten “cutoff” of 3.5. If you’re not aiming for front office finance, I’m sure you’ll be just fine. And even if you are, it’s certainly not impossible to get that GPA up to a 3.5.
