I'm sure this has been asked before but I cannot find any threads :(. If you know of any please link me :)

I spent my first year at CSUCI which made me ineligible for TAP at my CCC. Because of heath reasons I was unable to continue at CSUCI and I will be transferring out from CC this year. I have a transferable GPA of 3.53 (average for my major, philo, is like 3.49 I believe) but no TAP.If it helps at all I have a pretty strong upward trend with a 2.7 first semester then a 3.5 and 4.0 the semester after that. I have TAG to UCSD and UCSB so I am not too stressed but I would really like to be at UCLA because it is closer to home if I have any more heath problems. I have fairly strong EC's. What do you guys think about my chances?

Also, does anyone have opinions about majoring in POLY SCI/PHILO at UCSD which is traditionally known for its science majors? Also, how do you guys think that the budget cuts will affect admission to UCLA as a transfer student this year? Thanks for any help :).

In your situation, TAP would be a great help. TAP is meant to help out borderline candidates like you, so it would be a wise move to pursue it if you can.

UCSD has a very strong Political Science program. I’m almost tempted to say it’s better than UCLA’s program. Regardless, it’s a very good program. I have no idea how strong Philosophy at UCSD is.

The California budget crisis has hurt the UC system, but it has not obliterated it as the media likes to claim. I still worry, but in all honesty they are handling this mess rather well. The UCs are truly a miracle in the world of public education.

As long as you’re above average, I’d say you’re fine. But TAP would still be helpful to give you assurance and all that good stuff (you can’t go wrong with it, for the most part).

UCSD’s political science program is, actually, above LA’s. They’re known for science but other departments, especially social science and humanities, are actually quite amazing. Philosophy, however, is not ranked above LA, but they’re pretty close.

you are my competition, haha i am applying to UCLA for Philos also and i will be TAG for SB and SD. My GPA is similar to yours (3.6) and when i have asked people about how important it is, they say its extremely helpful to do but really difficult to complete in one year and might affect your grades, so just focus on getting your GPA as high as you can. Phil has a high admit rate, ~60%

this whole idea about tap ****es me off!!! Only because im new to california (went to college out of state while my parents have been living here for over a year! i have a license and i am a citizen but…still didn’t know!)

I don’t have enough semesters left before i transfer to fulfill tap and i’m mad…i have a 3.55 and i wanna get into UCLA for linguistics! (But it’ll hopefully go up to a 3.6 after this sem.)
