How much homework do you guys get (effects on sleep)?

<p>^ They deserve it. I have zero sympathy for them. I only feel bad that they were able to try to cheat at all</p>

<p>@Inveniamviam- no lol, i meant when a kid innocently/unknowingly did something wrong, like they were tricked into it? Like for example, when i was in kindergarten, i got suspended you know… do you want to know why? I was probably the most innocent kid in my school too.</p>

<p>@Baelor- I can understand your view, it is a commonly held view.</p>

<p>^I know, it makes me sad when people cry. But then rational thought kicks in, and I remember that they acted despicably.</p>

<p>My story: So i had just moved to the U.S. and I was on the bus on the way to school. The 5th graders were the oldest kids, and everybody would think they were the coolest and we would generally look up to them and try to fit in with them. I was beside a little girl from my class, and in the seat across were two 5th grade boys. They kept on tinkering with their fingers and would frequently giggle. Naturally I stared, pretty much intrigued. They saw that i was observing them, so they called over to me and told me to extend my middle finger. I didnt see anything wrong with this… whats so bad? Its just a finger? Part of my body, given to me by god? Right? If such a little action would give me notice and popularity, well… why not? The girl beside me told me not to, so i asked her why, and all she would say was that it was bad and thats that. I ignored the girls advice and did it. The boys laughed very loudly and were like “ooooohhhhhhhh!!!” and all that stuff. Next thing you know, i was in class, and the little girl beside me was telling my teacher about how crude and vulgar i was! My teacher looked over at me, and I extended the magic finger and asked her what was so bad. I cried so much that night, indeed, i whimpered like a baby after i received plenty of yelling and a thrashing from my parents…</p>

<p>I get a lot..but it’s mostly busywork. usually when i dont procrastinate i get 5 to 6 hrs of sleep per day…i don’t kno why teachers in my school giv homework like mad :(</p>

<p>weekends are worse…i usually get from 10 to 15 homework in the weekends…it sucks</p>

<p>Frankly, I rarely get homework or other assignements to do out of classe.. Most of the teachers don’t give them because they’re worth absolutely nothing in our grades anyway. They just count exams and major projects. The only subject in which I get homework is Maths and even at that, it’s something like 45 minutes every day and they let us do some (15-30 min) in class.</p>

<p>But if we have big projects to work on, they don’t really give us in-class time. We’re stuck to do all the work on lunch time or at home and those take about 15 hours.</p>

<p>I usually sleep 6 to 8 hours per day, but it’s mostly because I dont really need much sleep and I feel actually more drowsy if I slept more than 7 hours…</p>

When I was in middle school 7th grade El Rancho Charter School, Anaheim, CA, I had about 6-7.5 hours (8 if my mom didn’t do some of my homework) of homework. No exaggeration. When I do exagerate, I say 6-10 but it’s not 10 hours.) I start my homework at 4:30PM after enjoying a small mini lunch (I don’t eat enough lunch because I’m a slow eater and skinny). I do nothing else but homework from 4:30PM. I’m a straight A student and didn’t even spend enough time to get straight A+. 50 study guide question handwritten complete sentences every week in history with additional 10-20 question worksheet with essay question three times or more or more per week plus 6-7 pages of reading 4 days a week and 1 day to study, the usual 25 problems in math everyday with sometimes a test to study, handwritten 30 vocab words, definition, part of speech, example complete sentence, and something else I forgot but it was 4 lines every single week plus some reading to do and sometimes worksheet, Worksheets three or more times with notebook homework which is very hard to finish in class because of rushed pace and tricky science teacher says it won’t be graded and then grades 30% and grades a question wrong when she says she’ll give the point and lots of quizzes and tests, a PowerPoint about basic stuff with pictures on at least 9 slides colored and designed every other week plus an essay once per week in technology, no homework in PE, plus another class I forgot with more homework, guaranteed 2 quizzes every week and a test sometimes 2 tests for all the subjects every week and guarantee at least 4 (45 minute sheets per day) everyday, reading 7-9 pages in 2 subjects every week, a project every week, and a really long something (study guide, paper, something that takes 2 hours), and more that I forgot.

Adding all that up is 6-7.5 for an A (I had a mixture of A- A and A+). I slept at 11:30PM regularly and woke up at 6:00AM to get up to school (6.5 hours deprived of 2.45 hours since scientists says teens need 9.25 hours of sleep) Three days I had 9.5 hours of homework up to 1:30AM for three days straight (4.5 hours of sleep so seriously sleep deprived) and got a hefty fever and had to stay home from school, with 3 worksheets and a long worksheet in my mailbox.

TL;DR Because of average of 6-7.5 hours and 9 hours 1:30AM sleep-depriven streak of 3 times and got a major fever in 7th grade, my mom took my out and to an online school with no homework but it sucked so I went to another online school and now I get straight A+ with no homework (optional homework) and the content is actually harder and deeper (I tested with a friend and I knew more Algebra than he did). Finished online school at 4:00PM.

P.S. Some friends like this girl say there is literally no homework at that death public school but she has an average of C.
