it is too early for you to worry about this now
if you are heavily recruited for a major sport at cornell, such as basketball or ice hockey, it will make a very big difference and as long as your stats are medium, you have a very good chance for admission.
most recruited athletes, at cornell or other colleges, go ED.
as for golf at cornell, don’t know that being recruited for that sport will make a big difference for admission. check with the coach
my feeling is that the west coast schools recruit the top golf players and there it likely is a big difference
note - cornell is not the best location / weather for golfing
again, check with the coaches.

College recruitment is better than 99.99% of all hooks out there. It’ll save you no matter what grade you have (hyperbole, but yeah it saved some applicants with SATS as low as 1900s). @eng, really? I’d think Cornell would be a perfect location for golfers. Its scenery and atmosphere certainly seem fitting for such a sedentary sport (in my opinion golf is pretty sedentary). You do have a point though. Cornell is pretty hilly, and windy too from what i hear. Just pick the good days.

antiflamer is right, it is a strong hook, but never as strong as the hook of super connected legacy - meaning real serious money . @antiflamer , I was talking about the weather in Ithaca…
yes, being a recruited athlete helps a lot, particularly for a major sport at the college. it might not save you from any grades or scores, but if your stats are medium you have a good chance. just remember that having a sports hook helps, but it is not a guarantee. and without any hook, there is definitely no guarantee, even with perfect stats and ecs. its a real crap shoot for the unhooked, with even some low stat applicants getting in to everyones surprise and some super stat applicants getting denied.
last year my school had a kid get into Yale RD with 1940 SAT, 97 average, decent ecs - nothing great and completely unhooked and caucasian.
the ivys are a crap shoot.
if you are a real good golf player, look at Stanford, their teams are top ranked or near top ranked in almost every sport and they recruit heavily. also, I once heard that Duke is good for golf. ask your coach, he/she knows more than anyone here on cc.

Cornell does have a Robert Trent Jones golf course (he is generally thought to be the most influential golf course designer). He is (was) also an alum. Everyone’s right about the golfing weather, though. It’s a short season.
