How much is too much?

Hi, Sorry if this isn’t in the right forum.

I’m a soon-to-be PSEO student (Dual Enrollment) at my local community college and was wondering how much I could fill my plate without overloading myself. I’m interested in pharmacology and biochemistry, so I wanted to knock out as many credits as I could in those areas. I’m a junior, so i was wondering if it was possible to get an AS in biochem or something related to help give me a boost after high school. The thing is, being in PSEO, I still have to “fulfill” my high school requirements. the program itself (I could post a link if needed) says it will require 15 credit hours a semester, and I might have to add a few classes per year to get my high school reqs taken care of. (aka history, politics, aka all the stuff I’ll never use)

Would this be possible/recommended for me to try to do, or am I spreading myself too thin? I definitely want to have an AS under my belt by the time I graduate, but if I have to be taking possibly 15+ credit hours, will I be destroying my college gpa and social life? I know lots of regular college students take 15-18 credit hours (even more) but is this realistic for a high school student in PSEO?

Do you plan on applying to colleges?
It’s a time consuming task. High school teachers can help you. High school counselors can help you.
You are putting the cart before the horse. Why the rush?

Get your high school requirements out of the way, first. The colleges want to make sure you’ve completed the academic preparation that they want. You may not have room nor the grades, to take all of the CC classes and graduate with a diploma on time.

You can take all of the science courses you want, but if you don’t have your 4 years of English, 3+ years of Foreign language, 4 years of math, etc. you will not get into your colleges.

Yes, I’m planning on going to a state college. I wanted to do PSEO because it gives me access to college classes for free. The point of PSEO is to be able to get high school credit at the same time as college credit, but I may have to take additional english/social studies classes at the college to meet the high school reqs. that wont go towards a degree.

Thanks for the advice tough - I want to make sure I’m not overloading myself

You need to sit down with the PSEO coordinator and the graduation requirements for your high school. How many of those classes would also fulfill the general education requirements for the AS degree? Which of them could you fit in during the summer or during a January term? How many of those over-load classes would you need to pay for out of pocket?

Do not plan now to overload your semesters as a PSEO student. Sart with the normal 15-16 credits for the first couple of semesters. See how things go. Later on you will know what the workload is like, and whether or not you can handle more credit hours.
